We welcome the return of our snowbirds and the relief of some cooler weather! What a great time to be a part of the Citrus Hills Womens Club with more than 390 members and 10 of them new members. Our activities are off to a roaring start with two buses scheduled to depart on October 23 rd to the Florida Botanical Gardens. We have some seats available for this fun day, winding up with a lovely luncheon at the historic Bon Appetit Marina Café and shopping in Dunedin. Thanks to Janet Greig and Mary Lou Kosty! The next Activity Trip is a visit to International Plaza for Christmas Shopping and delight at the beautiful decorations. Seats available and we appreciate Diane Ballou and Cheryl Ringel for coordinating this fun day in Tampa. We had a great October Luncheon featuring Elvis in all his glory, a real treat and fond look down memory lane. November will feature our traditional BAKE AND CRAFT SALE and THANKSGIVING BUFFET, so we will need to have all mem- bers enter through the Hampton Room doors. Donations of crafts and baked goods will be accepted from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Tuesday the 12th. Please remember we will be wrapping up OPERATION KEEP CITRUS WARM effort Chaired by Ileen Zavoda and Sheri Tigner. Please remember to bring your donations in a bag and look for the BIG BOX outside to accept your donation. To augment that effort, I contacted BOMBAS GIVING PROGRAM and received 2500 pairs of socks in every size from toddlers to extra-large, to share with nonprofit agencies throughout the county. If you are interested in help- ing deliver the socks or have a favorite charity to include in the BOMBAS Giving Program, please get in touch with me! This month is a time of giving thanks for the many blessings we have, for the opportunities to share with others and for the special gift of friendships formed and enjoyed through our club. I am thankful for the honor of serving as your President and applaud and laud each outstanding member of the LEADERSHIP TEAM for their dedica- tion and many talents. Suggested Etiquette on Sending and Receiving Email

1. Include a clear, direct subject line. 2. Use a professional email address. Your name should be part of your email ad-dress so person receiving the email knows who is sending or at least knows it is not spam or a hacker. 3. Think twice before hitting 'reply all.' 4. Include a signature block. A signature block (often abbreviated

as signature, sig block, sig file, .sig, dot sig, siggy, or just sig) is a

personalized block of text automatically appended at the bottom of

an email message, Usenet article, or forum post. This can be created

in your email set-up. 5. Use friendly salutations. Your email beginning is the first thing

a recipient sees. A good beginning means that you leave a good im-

pression. A bad email beginning could mean your email goes straight

to the trash. 6. Use exclamation points sparingly. 7. Be cautious with humor. 8. Know that people from different cultures speak and write differ-ently. 9. Reply to your emails—even if the email wasn't intended for you. 10. Proofread and Spell Check every message. 11. Add the email address last. 12. Double-check that you've selected the correct recipient. 13. Keep your fonts classic. 14. Keep tabs on your tone. Do not get angry in an email. 15. Nothing is confidential--so write accordingly.

Our monthly luncheons are an opportunity for companionship, but they are also a re-quired business meeting that must be held 8 times a year according to our By Laws. Please remember that when we are conducting our business from the podium or have a guest speaker, we need your atten-tion and courtesy.

The Hush Patrol is being discontinued because of complaints by our members. We had hoped to provide a gentle reminder to our members to cease talking when someone is speaking from the podium. We ask you to observe the courtesy of listening to those who are speaking or at least stop talking so others can hear.

Your Scholarship Committee has been

very busy updating the 2019-2020 scholar-

ship applications and connecting with the

counselors and financial aid officers of our

local high schools and colleges.

The CHWC Scholarship Program funds high school seniors from Citrus and

Lecanto High Schools with $1000 each as they begin college. Students may

apply through their respective counseling offices by February 2020. The Scholar-

ship Committee meets to evaluate each applicant based on set criteria including

scholarship, leadership and financial need. Students are awarded their scholar-

ships at the May luncheon.

In addition, $1000 scholarships will be provided to women who live in Citrus

County and are studying at the College of Central Florida. These scholar-

ships are earmarked specifically for women who are returning to school af-

ter a lapse in their education, and have now decided to pursue a career. This

scholarship addresses a genuine need in our community to assist women, of vari-

ous backgrounds and circumstances, who are completing requirements to begin

a new phase in their lives. Finally, we have provided $500 to $1000 scholar-

ships to students at Withlacoochee Technical College that will be awarded

this fall. None of this could be accomplished without your hard work and gener-

osity.

Please remember to donate to the scholarship fund at the luncheon. Last year your generous donations funded almost two $1,000 scholarships. Members who donate are entered into a drawing for $100. The drawings take place at the monthly luncheons, January through May 2020. We are off to a good start, as $260.00 was donated in September. Your generosity is greatly appreciated by the scholarship recipients and their families.
