CICSNorthtownAcademyoffersawidevarietyofcoursesinordertochallengeeachstudenttoachievetohis/herpotential.Over110coursesarecurrentlyoffered,someofdifferentlevelsofcontentdepthandproficiency.Initialplacementfreshmanyearisdeterminedusingproficiencytestscoresandparentrecommendations.ClassestakenatCICSNorthtownare50minutesinlength,fivedaysperweek,38weeksperyear.CICSNorthtownoffersthreeDualCreditcourses.EnglishComposition(ENG101)andArtAppreciation(ART103)throughWilburWrightCollegeandIntrotheEngineeringDesignthroughtheUniversityofTexas–Austin.Senioryear,studentscanalsoapplyintoGenesysWorkswhichisasummertrainingprogramfocusedinIT,accounting,andhumanresources.Successfulcandidateswillthengetplacedinayearlong,paidcorporateinternshipwheretheywork20hoursaweek.Atotalof12AdvancedPlacement(AP)coursesareoffered.Therearealso17honor-levelcourses.SeniorscanelectintoourEarlyCollegeprogramstartingJunioryear.Thesecoursesareindicatedunderthenameofthecollegeonthetranscriptsandstudentsearn1.0highschoolcreditforeachcompletedcourse.StudentsareprovidedcounselingonmakingresponsiblechoicesaboutAPandDualCreditcourses.Studentscanenrollinupto3APcoursesinanyoneyear.Exceptionsaremadeonacase-by-casebasis.

Northtown will disclose only when the school determines that a student’s actions have put his or her place at the school in serious jeopardy. On applications in which a student is specifically asked to disclose, we counsel the student through the process, informing him or her that failure to do so would be a violation of our community principles. Official CICS Northtown Academy transcripts are released only to an accredited educational institution or to the NCAA Eligibility Center. All transcripts are sent electronically through Parchment. A weighted and unweighted grade point average are report for each student. Test scores are only included on the transcript with student and parent permission; generally, students request that test scores be forwarded directly from the testing agency.
