NACE equips society to protect people, assets and the environment from the adverse effects of corrosion”
NACE International, The Worldwide Corrosion Authority, was established in 1943 by eleven corrosion engineers from the pipeline industry as the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) today serves over 36000 members in around 130 countries and has acquired international repute and credibility as a premier authority for corrosion control solutions. The organization offers technical training and certification programs, organizes conferences while also disseminating industry standards, reports, publications, technical journals and providing avenues for networking and collaboration. NACE International is headquartered in Houston, Texas, with offices in San Diego, California; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Shanghai, China, Sao Paulo, Brazil and Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia. The members of NACE International include engineers, as well as numerous other professionals working in a range of areas related to corrosion control. For more information visit www.nace.org
NACE INTERNATIONAL
NACE International Gateway India Section (NIGIS) was established in 1992. NIGIS is one of the largest and most active sections of NACE International through its significant efforts for the promotion of corrosion awareness, protection and control of corrosion in India. With over 1000 members, NIGIS has organized over 204 certification courses on CIP Level 1, Level 2, Peer Review, CIP 2 Emphasis, Nuclear Power Plant course, O-CAT, PCS 2, Basic Corrosion, Direct Assessment, Internal Corrosion for Pipeline, Refinery Corrosion and Cathodic Protection 1, 2 & 3 of NACE International. It has also organized more than 120 educational corrosion awareness programs and hosted 25 annual corrosion conferences. To commemorate Corrosion Awareness Day, NIGIS awards individuals and institutions for their contributions to corrosion awareness and developments in the field of corrosion science and technology. The Gateway India Section sponsors two student chapters, one each in Mumbai and Chennai. NIGIS Student chapters had organized “CORSYM" international corrosion conference for students. NIGIS is committed to enhance the quality and range of its services and activities in the field of corrosion awareness and dissemination of knowledge on corrosion, its protection and control in India and worldwide. The world is rapidly moving towards developing sustainable infrastructure with the focus on corrosion-free materials for effective optimizing corrosion controls and reduction in lifecycle costs. Corrosion-control and mitigation at the initial design and construction stage of assets is more rewarding in the long run in terms of increased safety, performance, asset life, environment protection and operational cost-effectiveness. Overall the global cost of corrosion is estimated to be in trillions. In India corrosion is believed to impact approx. 4 per cent of the country's GDP and the ever-growing environmental threat calls for urgent and appropriate measures.
CORCON, the annual conference and expo on corrosion science and engineering held in India, is the largest event of its kind in Asia, attracting participation from academic and research institutions, public and private sector organizations including defense establishments and professionals. This event offers an excellent platform for exchange of information on matters concerning corrosion, learning about existing and upcoming products and technologies and networking. As the world faces more and more challenges with ageing infrastructure, it is imperative for advocates of corrosion mitigation to unite and address the problem. Each year over 900 industry leaders from around the world come together at CORCON, in an effort to tackle corrosion issues, and inform participants of the latest solutions and methods.
