The CII Kerala Newsletter

MESSAGE FROM CHAIRMAN

Dear Members,

2017 is slowly coming to a close. It has been a power packed year

and a year of immense learning. The Indian economy had been

darning the experimenter’s hat with several new changes being in-

troduced. Kerala too has rode the wave of change on a positive

note with multipronged efforts to shed its image of being an industry

-unfriendly state.

CII Kerala has taken several bold steps forward in the last few months to complement the

government’s effort to re-engineer our economy. CII partnered with KASE and ODEPC in

taking an international delegation to the UAE to promote our valuable human resource base

and how multinational organizations could benefit immensely by recruiting from Kerala. The

6th edition of Kerala Health Tourism, organized in Kozhikode this year, was a great suc-

cess. All the stakeholder came forward univocally to work jointly to build up this highly

promising sector.

We have a long way to go. We have given direction to set a positive tone to the industrial

climate of the state. Persistent follow up action and regular reviews of our progress are es-

sential to ensure that we reach our goals. In this context, I, on behalf of CII, request your

active support and inputs to our efforts in build a progressive economy.

With these few words, I, on behalf of CII Kerala, proudly place before you fifth edition of CII Connect for this year. Kindly send your feedback and suggestions on the newsletter to [email protected]

Sincerely

Mr G Krishna Kumar

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

The 6th edition of Kerala Health Tourism (KHT),

the flagship programme of the Health & Tourism

Sector in Kerala organized by the Confedera-

tion of Indian Industry (CII) was inaugurated on

17 November 2017 at Kozhikode by UV Jose,

Hon’ble Collector of Kozhikode. The pro-

gramme was held in partnership with the Kerala

State Industrial Development Corporation

(KSIDC), Government of Kerala. The pro-

gramme aimed to create awareness and get all

stakeholders together to promote Kerala as the

hub for medical tourism in India by 2020.

Inaugurating the conference UV Jose, empha-

sized the need for public and private organiza-

tions to work in partnership to develop suitable

policies and medical infrastructure and promote

it. He also stressed the need to improve the

connect between the industry and the govern-

ment so that the medical tourism sector evolves

well. K E Moidu, Director, Meitra Hospital &

Managing Director, Peekay Steel Castings (P)

Ltd was the Chairman of CII Kerala Health

Tourism 2017.

The programme included one-and-half -day of

Conference, two-day Exhibition and B2B & B2G

meetings. The programme saw the participation

of more than 300 national & international dele-

gates, over 40 exhibitors from the hospital and

tourism industry and over 800 visitors for the

exhibition. Delegations from Oman, Maldives &

Saudi Arabia joined the event.

Experts in the fields of healthcare, tourism and

the government came together to discuss how

Kerala can be made the number one health

tourism destination on the second day of the

conference. Dr MK Muneer, MLA emphasized

the need for govern-

ment to work together

with the industry to

develop the health

tourism sector in Ker-

ala. The Government

should work as facili-

tators, if not investors,

for this industry to de-

velop. Creating a PPP

model is of utmost im-

portance, he opined.

He also addressed on

the importance of reducing red-tapism in the

current bureaucratic systems and the need to

come up with more progressive and attractive

schemes that would pull both private industry

players and foreign patients to the state. Dr Ha-

rish Pillai, Chief Executive Officer, Aster

Medcity stressed upon the need to improve

quality of healthcare systems in the country and

invest heavily in infection prevention practices

and controls. He also suggested that India as a

country rate hospitals and doctors on the clini-

cal outcomes as is done in the developed coun-

tries. An encyclopaedia of best practices in the

medical field will also largely help in this regard,

he said.

and would also open up new opportunities for

time, technology and effective use of labour and

finance are key components that can help cre-
