RESEARCH ACTIVITIES College Student knowledge of Paralympics vs. Special Olympics. The purpose of the research is to examine college students’ knowledge of adapted sport using survey research methodology. This study is a collaboration of faculty and graduate students in the Ability Diversity area of study in the Kinesiology Department. The initial study was completed with WIU students and the goal is to continue this line of study at other universities where programs or offices for Paralympic Training and/or Special Olympic state programs (i.e. University of Illinois, Central Michigan University). Data collection and analysis Spring 2017. Content Analysis of Disability Content in Sport Management Textbooks The purpose is to examine the inclusion of disability content in textbooks used in Sport Management courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. This is a collaborative effort with colleagues Deb Shapiro and Brenda Pitts from Georgia State University. Data collection and Analysis began Summer 2016. iPad Use in Physical Activity Levels for Young Adults with Intellectual Disabilities and/or Autism External granted funded (total amount of $4052.95 in 2012). The purpose of this study is twofold: (a) to determine if the iPad can be an effective tool for individuals with autism and intellectual disabilities to increase their time on task at a moderate to vigorous level s of physical activity and (b) to provide future personal fitness trainers with experience using current technology (i.e. iPad). This study will incorporate both qualitative and quantitative measures.
