aBoUt tHe pride awardsThe CIPR PRide Awards recognise excellence in PR and communications across the UK. These awards grow year-on-year as consultancies and organisations increasingly recognise the benefits of industry awards.

wHat are yoU waiting for?Gather the team, discuss all the successful campaigns and initiatives you have run in the past year and put your organisation on the map!

How does JUdging work?A team of more than 50 judges will review the entries and select the shortlist and winners. Your 1,000 word entry will be judged on the campaign or project brief, objectives, your strategy and tactics, outputs and outcomes. The new criteria mean that the evaluation section of your entry must focus on objectives-based measurement, and not AVE’s.

Measurement is the key to the judges’ hearts. So much so, that they will be making their own award at the end of the PRide Awards evening for the entry that demonstrates the best use of Measurement and Evaluation*.

please submit your entry in pdf format online at www.cipr.co.uk/prideawards

Your entry can be up to 1,000 words long and should address the key headings set out in the entry guidelines overleaf. Small images and press cuttings can be included but your PDF must not exceed 1MB or four sides of A4. We advise the use of images optimised for the web at 72dpi.

In addition to your 1,000 word entry, please upload two high resolution supporting images. Please ensure that these images are at least 300dpi. If you are shortlisted, these images will be used in print and in the Awards show.

Invoices are available on request by email to [email protected] and must be requested by 4 July 2011 at the latest.

A PO number will be required before an invoice can be raised. All invoices must be paid in full by 18 July or the relevant entry will be withdrawn.

Campaign awards1. Corporate and Business CommunicationsCorporate communications, including business and trade campaigns, which build awareness, enhance company reputation or generate business.

2. not-for-profitA campaign based in the charitable and non-commercial sectors that has successfully communicated its message and met its objectives. (Reduced entry fee for Not-for-Profit organisations)

3. internal CommunicationsCommunication with, or involvement of, employees in a campaign designed to promote corporate objectives, whether in the public or private sector.

4. Crisis CommunicationsA campaign demonstrating how a crisis was successfully managed from a communications perspective.

5. Community relationsA campaign that demonstrates how a PR or communications initiative has successfully dealt with community issues.

6. public sectorA campaign designed to promote the policies, achievements and services of a public sector organisation to its stakeholders. (Reduced entry fee for Public Sector organisations)

7. Best Campaign £10,000 and UnderA campaign that demonstrates the best use of a low budget of less than £10,000 to achieve its objectives.

8. Consumer relationsA campaign supporting the marketing of consumer products or services in all industries, including arts, sport, leisure and tourism.

9. Best Use of media relationsA campaign that captures the imagination of targeted media and meets client / project objectives.

10. integrated CommunicationsA campaign demonstrating integrated use of communications, including marketing, advertising and public relations techniques, to achieve its objectives.

11. Best Use of social mediaA campaign that effectively uses social media to reach its target audiences and achieve its objectives.

speCial awards12. Best Use of photography or designEntries should demonstrate how a photograph, a series of photographs, or design work has successfully contributed to a public relations campaign.

13. external newspaper or magazine newA magazine or newspaper produced at least twice a year, aimed at an organisation’s external target audiences.

14. internal newspaper or magazine newAn in-house magazine or newspaper produced at least twice a year, aimed at an organisation’s employees.

15. Best website or micrositeA website or microsite that successfully reflects its aims, objectives and culture, and interacts with stakeholders. No timescale applies to this category.

16. Best eventAny event that meets its objectives and is delivered within budget and on time. This could be a conference, product launch, special dinner, awards ceremony, or any other event designed to meet a specific objective.

The winners in each of the above categories will automatically be considered for the Judges’ Special Award – Best Use of Measurement and Evaluation.

team and individUal awards17. outstanding young CommunicatorRecognising the achievements, performance and excellent work of young professionals who make a valuable contribution to the organisations and companies they work for and show considerable promise as future leaders of the industry. Entrants must be aged 30 or under on 25 July 2011 and working full-time in communications.

18. outstanding small ConsultancyRecognising the achievements, performance and excellent work of a small consultancy during the past three years. Consultancies must have no more than five people working together to enter this category.(Reduced entry fee applies)

19. outstanding in-House public relations teamThis award recognises the achievements, performance and excellent work of an in-house PR team during the past three years.

20. outstanding public relations ConsultancyThis award recognises the achievements, performance and excellent work of a PR consultancy during the past three years.

21. public affairsA campaign designed to inform the public policy agenda or influence the legislative process.

22. Corporate responsibilityA campaign designed to support corporate values on community, social, ethical and reputational issues.

This category is only available in Home Counties South, Midlands, North East, North West, Northern Ireland, Wessex and Yorkshire & Lincolnshire regions.

23. publicationAny one-off publication produced for an organisation’s stakeholders or shareholders, including an annual report, leaflet, brochure, A–Z guide or a similar hard copy publication.

This category is only available in Home Counties South, North West, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Yorkshire & Lincolnshire regions.

The winners in Categories 21, 22 and 23 will also be considered for the Judges’ Special Award – The Best Use of Measurement and Evaluation.

24. Best freelance practitionerRecognising the achievements, performance and excellent work of a freelance PR practitioner during the past three years.(Reduced entry fee applies)

This category is only available in East Anglia, Home Counties South, Midlands, North East, North West, Thames & Chiltern, West of England and Wessex regions.

25. scottish public sector team of the yearThis award will be made to the Public Sector Team of the Year in Scotland and is designed to reflect the high proportion of PR professionals working in this sector. Entrants should provide an overview of excellent activity over the last 12 months, including professional developments and initiatives that best depict the team and their personalities.(Reduced entry fee applies)This category is only available in Scotland.

Campaign awards: Categories 1–11, 21 and 22speCial awards: Categories 12–16 and 23

Entries should consist of no more than 1,000 words and should address these key areas:

• The campaign/project brief• Objectives• Strategy and tactics• Outputs• Outcomes• Budget.

Each entry must end with an indication of the total budget allocated to the project (including an appropriate allowance for staff, fees/retainer time).

Entries must relate to work carried out between July 2010 and July 2011. In Categories 11 and 15, please ensure that you provide the URL of your website or any social media channels at the top of the entry document.

In Categories 13 and 14, in addition to your 1,000 word entry, please upload two issues of your newspaper or magazine in PDF format.

In Category 23, in addition to your 1,000 word entry, please upload your publication in PDF format.

individUal awardsCategory 17 – Outstanding Young Communicator Entries should consist of no more than 1,000 words and should focus on your professional achievements. Please provide the following information:

• An overview of your experience in the profession• A short endorsement from your current employer• An example of a recent campaign you have

worked on.

Entries must be made by you, the candidate, and not by a third party.

Category 24 – Best Freelance PractitionerEntries should consist of no more than 1,000 words and should focus on your business achievements. Please provide the following information:

• Overview of your experience in the profession• Your business objectives and analysis of

performance against budget• Short endorsements from two clients• An example of a campaign you have delivered,

including details of the brief, objectives, strategy and tactics, outputs, outcomes and budget.

Judges will be looking at achievements and performance over the period July 2008 – July 2011.

Category Specific guidelines

team awards: Categories 18–20These Awards will be judged by the Chairs of Judges, based on the information presented in each entry for this category alone. The results in other categories for entries you have submitted in PRide 2011 will not be taken into account.

Entries should consist of no more than 1,000 words and should focus on your business achievements. Please provide the following information:

• Corporate mission• Business objectives and analysis of performance

against budget• Overview of business/team strategy• A summary of outstanding achievements• An example of a campaign you are particularly

proud of, including details of the brief, objectives, strategy and tactics, outputs, outcomes and budget

• Short endorsements from two clients• Information about what makes you special as

an employer.

Judges will be looking at achievements and performance over the period July 2008–July 2011.

1. All entries must be submitted by 18:00 on Monday 18 July 2011. Late entries will be accepted until 18:00 on Monday 25 July 2011 (late fee applies).

2. The CIPR PRide Awards are open to any organisation, company or individual connected to, or working within, the public relations or communications industries outside of Greater London and based within the specified regions/nations. If you are unsure about your organisation’s eligibility, please email [email protected] or visit cipr.co.uk/groups for a list of regional groups and the areas they cover.

3. All entries should relate primarily to work carried out between July 2010 and July 2011 (except Categories 15, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 24).

4. Entries which exceed 1,000 words may be disqualified. Any confidential information may subsequently be removed from an entry which will appear on the CIPR website, once you are notified that you are shortlisted. All entries need to be in PDF format.

5. Entries should be made online at www.cipr.co.uk/prideawards. No hard copy entries can be accepted.

6. Discounts are available to special groups in the categories specified in the entry brochure. Proof of eligibility for these discounts must be provided, as requested on the online entry form.

7. You may submit the same entry in more than one category, but each entry must be submitted separately and paid for accordingly. There is no discount for submitting more than one entry.

8. The decision of the judges is final.

9. Receipt of entries will be acknowledged by email, within ten days of the late closing date.

10. All shortlisted entrants will be contacted by Friday 26 August 2011 at the latest. Please be aware that your entry and supporting photographs, if shortlisted, may be used on the CIPR PRide website as a case study.

11. Organisations associated with a CIPR 2011 PRide judge may still enter the awards, but the judge in question will not take part in the judging process for the category entered.
