Success story of JFMC, Chinchwad (Khoripada) under FDA project
Chinchwad (Khoripada) is a village situated in Trimbakeshwar taluka, district Nashik.
Population of the village is 490. Forest area in the village is 156.00 hectare. Joint Forest Management
Committee was established in the year 2006. It was rejuvenated in 2011 as per G.R. dated 05.10.2011.
The area handed over to Joint Forest Management Committee, Chinchwad (Khoripada) is 156.00 ha.
FDA works were taken up in Khoripada from the year 2013-14.
In the year 2011-12, plantation (AR model) was taken up under Campa over an area of 30 ha. In
the year 2013-14, plantaions of three models ANR (40.00 Ha.), Bamboo (40.00 Ha.) and Mix Plantation
(10.00 Ha.) was taken under FDA. All the plantations are well protected by the members of JFMC.
Soil and moisture conservation works like Deep CCT (2000 cum.), 1 Van Bandhara and 3 Water
holes were executed under different Schemes like Campa, District Plan, FDA etc.
As a part of Entry point Activitiy 33 Solar Lanterns, 2 Solar Street Light and 22 Suryabumbs were
distributed. Also one bore well is taken in village area which has solved the drinking water problem.
Moreover 86 Families were provided with LPG Connections through State plan Scheme.
As a part of Shramdan, Natural Regeneration works like Climber cutting, Singling and tending are
carried out by members of JFM Committees.
JFM Committee in association with Forest Department has started Vulture Restaurant in 2011
which is playing an important role in Conservation of Long Billed & White Back Vultures.
Impact of plantation, Entry point activities and SMC works carried out:
i) As LPG gas connection and other energy saving equipments were provided by the Forest
Department, it has reduced the pressure on Forest for Fuel wood.
ii) Chinchwad (Khoripada) committee and Villagers are protecting the forest very well. They
harvest the grass from forest area and feed the cattle in the cattle shed. Hence there is an
increase in forest area under forest cover.
iii) As a result of soil and moisture conservation works taken up, water table in the nearby wells
increased drastically.
Appreciating the efforts taken to protect both forest and wildlife, District Level First prize under
Sant Tukaram Vangram Yojana for the year 2012-13 and Consolation Prize at state level in same event
for the year 2013-14 were given to the JFMC Chinchwad (Khoripada).
Important point to be mentioned is due to community led conservation efforts succeeded to
increase density of vultures in the area. More than 75 long billed and white back vultures can be seen
at a time in Vulture Restaurant.
