may authenticate on behalf of an end user
by setting an authentication code

Setting up the 7800/8800 phoneBasic features
Step 3 of 5
7800 Series – Toggling Multiple Calls
• Use swap button for 2 calls
• For toggling between 3 calls on a single line you must press the physical line key
• A roster will display to indicate available lines
• Use the up/down rocker to select the call and click resume
Step 3 of 5
7800 Series Case Study & Best Practice Consideration
• Approximately 2000 x 7821 phones for standard hotel rooms
• Approximately 50 x 88xx phones for deluxe hotel rooms. (88xx allows for background wallpaper push of hotel logo)
• Desire for more than 1 speed dial on 78xx phone requires the use of down navigator “rocker”
• Speed dials on rocker show “Dining”, “Spa”, “Front Desk”, etc.
• Used Phone Button template to remove “unnecessary” default softkeys like “Redial” and “Fwd All”
Step 3 of 5
Best Practice Considerations – Basic Settings

Step 3 of 5
Cisco IP Phone 7800 & 8800 & 8961/9900 SeriesBest Practice – Actionable Incoming Call Alerts
• Actionable Incoming Call Alert: great way to easily answer incoming calls
Step 3 of 5
*For 7800 series 10.3.1 or higher firmware is required
Actionable Toast
on 8800 Series
Here is a description of the desired behavior
8800 Series – Basic Setup – Scenario 1
End User
Perspective
Administrative
Parameter
“I want to see all the
calls for all my lines
displayed on my
main line”
“Show All Calls on
Primary Line”
Show All Calls on Primary Line
Step 3 of 5
• Disadvantages
• Waste of a PLK
• End User must toggle back and forth
• Advantages
• If you need to explicitly “detach” the All Calls from the Primary Line via a PLK
• End User has grown accustomed to the “All Call” button and you do not wish to change
8800 Series –Misconfiguration of Scenario 1
You typically don’t want the
“All Calls” Line Key
because you can merge its
function into the Prime Line
Extraneous configuration of “All Calls” Programmable Line Key (PLK)
“All Calls”
Step 3 of 5
8800 Series – Basic Setup Up – Scenario 2
• These features work together
End User Perspective Administrative Parameter
“I want to see all the calls for all my
lines displayed on my main line”
“Show All Calls on Primary Line”
“When ending a call on the non-
primary line, I want it to immediately
revert back to the primary line”
“Revert to All Calls”
Step 3 of 5
8800 Series – Possible Misconfiguration of Scenario 2
• Accidental configuration of “Revert to All Calls” without also configuring “Show All Calls on Primary Line” or “All Calls” Programmable Line Key
• The prerequisite to “Revert to All Calls’ requires either “All Calls” PLK or “Show All Calls on Prime Line
• You might configure “Always Use Prime Line” thinking it will have the same effect
Step 3 of 5
8800 Series – How to Setup Up – Scenario 3
• Here is a description of the desired behavior
Desired Behavior//CUCM “Always Use Prime Line”
“I want dial tone on prime line when I pick up the handset
or speakerphone even when calls are alerting on non-prime
lines. I can override this functionality by:
(1) pre-dialing digits on the non-prime-line or
(2) Highlighting the non-primary line and selecting the
session key on the top right or “New Call” soft-key
