Cities of the World and the Five ThemesProject
1. For this project you will research a city in your assigned region of the world:a. Table 1-The Americasb. Table 2-Europe and the Republics of the Former Soviet Unionc. Table 3-Africa and the Middle Eastd. Table 4-Asia East-by-South and the Pacific World
You may choose your own city, but make sure each person has a different city.2. Next, you will work toward the finished product of a five-page guide to the city,
using the Five Themes of Geography. Make sure to add a cover sheet.3. For each page, you will write two sentences relating the theme of that page to
your city. Also include two visuals per page that support your sentences.a. Location: You might choose to write one sentence about the absolute
location and the other about the relative location.b. Place: You might choose to write one sentence about the physical place
characteristics and one about the human place characteristics of your city.c. Human Environment Interaction: Does the city have any special
adaptations to the environment? Does its main function relate to its location relative to its physical environment?
d. Movement: How do people get around inside the city? Why might people travel to the city? Do some people move out of the city?
e. Regions: Think of sentences that describe the region that the city is in. The regions listed under requirement #1 would be an example of one; see if you can describe your city in terms of another region.
4. After you have written your sentences, place two visuals on each page. You may draw, download from the Internet, or cut out of a magazine.
5. Staple your five pages together with a Title Sheet.
