May 2017 the NEWSCOMER CITRUS NEWCOMERS CLUB Citrus County, Florida Hi everyone, It doesn’t seem possible that our Newcomers year is almost over! As they say, “Time flies when you are having a good time.” And, we did! Those good times would not have happened without the hard work of our board members. From our programs to our activities, from our publicity to our membership, we learned, we laughed, and we met new friends. Our luncheons are excellent! Because of your new ideas, our special interest groups keep growing. All of you, members as well as board members, working together are what make Citrus Newcomers a success! We hope that you enjoyed this year and are planning to renew your membership. We will have a table at our May Luncheon with membership forms for you to complete and turn in with your check. Our New Board for 2017- 2018 is already busily planning and organizing. We will have a Valentine’s Dinner Dance next February instead of a Holiday Party in December. In addition to Citrus Hills, Black Diamond, and Sugar Mill Woods, we are also hoping to have a couple new venues for our luncheons. We love hearing your ideas! If you have suggestions for Activities, contact Bonnie Groves or Pat Sherman. If you have ideas for programs, contact Regina Keadle or Chris Lyman. If you want to start a new special interest group, contact Janell St. Blanc. If you have suggestions for luncheon locations or menus, contact Bunny Bucci or Linda Chuckman. If you have ideas and don’t know who to share them with, contact Mickey Murphy or Sharon Maxwell. These ladies are all good listeners! Bev and I loved being your Co-Presidents this year. It has been rewarding to get to know our new members and to enjoy those of you we already know. Citrus Newcomers keeps getting better and better because of you. Thank you so much for your support and participation! We are looking forward to many more fun times next year! Be sure to join our Facebook Page to keep updated with what’s happening. Check our website as well! Have a fantastic summer. You are a wonderful group of ladies! Bev Goethe Sharon Gatz [email protected] [email protected] 1

May’s Program – Tourism Pays Off in Citrus County

Did you know that each Citrus County resident household saves $193 in taxes each year as a direct result of tourism? Adam Thomas will be our guest speaker at the May luncheon. Adam is the Director for the Citrus County Visitor and Conventions Bureau with proficiency in Tourism & Travel, Sports Tourism and Tourism Planning. Over the previous four years, he has continuously created and implemented the destination’s marketing and promotion plan, making Citrus County visible to guests from around the world. He has also focused on the destination’s re-branding from Citrus County to Discover Crystal River FL (with a sub-brand that’s dubbed “The Manatee Capital of The World”), for a distinctive tourism product that influences guests decision making. Adam recently completed the Citrus County Visitor and Conventions Bureau Three-Year Strategic Plan that focuses on building the future of tourism through 2020.

Adam holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Management with a concentration in Hospitality & Travel/Tourism. He is currently seeking the Tourism Industry highest achievement, the credential of (CDME) Certified Destination Management Executive.

Adam sits on the Florida State Board of Directors for Florida Association of Destination Marketing Organization and has been previously appointed to the Visit Florida’s marketing committee for Culture, Heritage, Rural and Nature.

Adam is the recipient of The Chronicle’s 40 Under 40 award and has been recognized as one of Citrus County’s top leaders. Come hear Adam talk about the current trends and future plans for Citrus County’s tourism trade and how it affects all of us.
