City Council Declares Homeless Shelter Crisis in San Diego Related to Hepatitis A Outbreak

On Monday, October 2nd, my Council colleagues and I unanimously declared a homeless shelter crisis related to the Hepatitis A outbreak in the city of San Diego.

This emergency declaration allows the city to access funding to address the public health crisis and provide protection for additional emergency shelter and new sanitation measures.

After our vote on Monday, we know that we must focus on the future, a future that begins by declaring this crisis and beginning strategies that includes prevention as the foundation for all our efforts.

With prevention as our guiding principle, we must begin to focus on shelter and housing opportunities designed toward helping homeless living on our streets, parks, and canyons to live in suitable environments free of disease and despair.

This Council and city is serious about preventing what has happened in the past and addressing the future of homelessness in this city with critical steps designed to end homelessness as we know it.

Council District 4 Street Improvements in FY 2017 The Street Division of the Transportation and Storm Water Department has completed a variety of infrastructure improvements in Council District 4 for FY 2017. I will continue to advocate for projects, like these, to pave more streets and build additional sidewalks in my district. The improvements are as follows:
