Regional Context Statement
• The purpose of a regional context statement is to identify the relationship between the regional plan (Calgary Metropolitan Plan) and the municipal development plan (Airdrie City Plan).
• The regional context statement identifies the role of the City within the region and describes the extent of policy alignment between the two plans.
Purpose statement
RCS Development Process
1. Developed a chapter in the Airdrie City Plan for the RCS.
2. Outlined the purpose of the RCS and the intent of the CMP.
3. Organized RCS under the themes of: Regional Landscape
Regional Settlement Patterns
Regional Infrastructure and Services
4. Developed policy alignment table within the City Plan.

Outlined the regional policy intent for the three themes:
Regional Landscape: Protection of regional ecosystems, including wetlands, riparian areas & significant vegetation.
Regional Settlement Patterns: Take actions to minimize the future human footprint through compact form, transit-supportive development patterns, intensification & avoidance of sprawl.
Regional Infrastructure & Services: Provision of infrastructure services that support efficient settlement patterns and reduce environmental impacts.
