After more than a year of planning, countless meetings, and at least 100hours of volunteer service, the new con-cession stand and storage building at thebig diamond is DONE!
The new building features a largerconcession area with two service win-dows, two bathrooms, a covered patioarea and increased storage for LittleLeague equipment. Getting this projectdone has been a dream of many for nu-merous years, so it was immensely sat-isfying to see the first items sold onMonday night.
What you may not know about thisproject is that it was 100-percent volun-teer driven. The old building was too small, getting very run-down and did not fea-ture any running water. Therefore, mem-bers of the Breda Recreational Commit-tee approached the City Council back inthe summer of 2017 to discuss the need.
With the support from the CityCouncil to move forward with theproject, Rec Committee members tookthe lead in setting up meetings to dis-cuss potential designs, review estimates, and begin a fundraising strategy.

MoveIt 40th AnniversaryOn Tuesday, May 14th, MoveIt
employees honored founder DG Par-tridge and wife Rosemary by hosting aluncheon to celebrate the 40th Anniver-sary of MoveIt, formerly known as CTS.
Employees gathered on Tuesday toreminisce about the changes the com-pany has seen through the years.
In May of 1979, DG started Com-puter Transportation Services, Ltd(CTS), in a small building on main streetin Breda. CTS moved large mainframecomputers for IBM, Honeywell, othermanufacturers and leasing companies. Astechnology has changed, the MoveIt®Companies have adapted to other com-modities while still keeping the same corefocus. Since that time, the company hasgrown and expanded.
In 2008-2009, the company con-structed a new eco-friendly building, onthe east edge of Breda. They moved tothe new location in February of 2009,and celebrated their 30th year of busi-ness that spring.
CTS rebranded their name to Move-It in 2010 to better describe what thecompany does. They specialize in logis-tics services for shippers of high valueand sensitive commodities like retail fix-tures, scientific equipment, computer, and medical equipment. MoveIt cur-rently employees 30 people.

Westside folks sought for Dow City 150th parade entryThe Westside 150th Publicity Committee is taking an entry to the Dow City Sesquicentennial
Parade this Saturday. The goal is to have 15-20 people to ride on the entry, throwing candy, distributingschedules and parade information, and having fun!
Everyone who rides should wear a Westside t-shirt and be ready to wave and smile to the crowdalong the parade route! All ages are welcome. The goal is to support our neighbors to the west andencourage people from that area to reciprocate in August!
The parade starts at 11 a.m., and everyone should meet in the parade lineup area on the eastedge of town. Anyone interested in participating can call The Observer, 663-4362, for more information.
After the first $5,000 grant was re-ceived from the Community Foundationof Carroll County, we started to refinethe project and “think bigger.” I person-ally had a desire to see additional bath-rooms closer to the grandstand. This wasa result of many, many years of makingmad dashes toward the bathrooms nearthe trail with toddlers who needed togo… and needed to go NOW.
The large gift last year from West-ern Iowa Networks enabled that visionof additional bathrooms to become a re-ality. Without their support, this build-ing could not have been completed in thecapacity you see now. Their generousgift opened the door to additional sig-nificant cash and product donations fromSparky’s One Stop/Al’s Corner, Toyne,Inc., Breda Savings Bank, Red’s Place,Trophies Plus and Snappy Popcorn. When you see representatives from thesefantastic local businesses, please extendyour gratitude to them for generouslysupporting this building and ensuring astrong future for ball games at MemorialPark.
Finally, while I may have been a
public face making pitches for thisproject, I certainly was not alone in roll-ing up my sleeves to get this done. ChadMcDermott, Jean Ludwig, Nikki Mack,Bruce Boes and Brian Steinkamp allhelped during the planning process, dis-cussing ideas and researching ways wecould make it work as envisioned. Oncethe building started taking shape, Brucewent above and beyond, helping leveldirt and plant grass seed, along with stak-ing off the area so new grass can grow, and pitching in to offer any additionalassistance we needed. And finally, mywonderful, sweet and humble husband,Bill Vonnahme, spent countless hoursconstructing countertop bases, puttingtogether shelving units, creating a tablefor scoreboard operators, and just aboutanything else you could think of.
Add in Hagen Ludwig and severalothers who helped move items from theold building into storage, and then backinto the new building, and you can seethis was a total team effort.
So next time you are at the ballpark,I hope when you look at this new build-ing, you not only take pride in its addi-tion to this lovely town, but that youalso see the faces of the many generousdonors and gracious volunteers whohelped make it a reality.
