Please join the City of Encinitas Mayor and City Council for the inaugural opening day of Encinitas Community Park.

“A Day in the Park” festivities include ribbon cutting ceremonies for the Maggie Houlihan Memorial Dog Park, the Skate Park, and the Playfields. Also come and enjoy a good ole’ fashion picnic with hot dogs, game activities for the kiddos, pro-skaters meet & greets, demos, and DJ; a pet health expo, a kids home run derby and so much more. Walk away with a commemorative pennant and multiple give-a-ways from the community. Did you purchase a personalized paver? Then have some fun while you walk the park to locate your paver!

Movies as they were made to be seen- on our big inflatable screen and sound system! Bring the family out for a fun night of entertainment and enjoy watching movies at two of our most popular facilities- Cottonwood Creek Park and the Encinitas Community Center. Movies are free! Bring your blankets and low-back chairs. In the case of rain, The November 15 movie will be moved into the Community Center Auditorium. EVENTSEVENTS in Encinitas

Encinitas Holiday Parade. Our hometown tradition! Thousands of people will be on floats and in bands with tens of thousands more cheering them on as the 2014 Encinitas Holiday Parade rolls along Coast Highway 101 on Saturday, December 6th. The parade begins at 5:30p.m. It is preceded by a 5:00 PM tree lighting ceremony at the Lumberyard (near Starbucks coffee).

Parade entries, which will include floats, marching bands and children’s groups among other things, will travel south along South Coast Highway 101 beginning at the corner of “D” Street and finishing at “J” Street.

Come on out and cheer as the nearly 100 parade floats and entries make their way down the Parade route on Historic Coast Highway 101.

KIDS DAY OUT/ KIDS NIGHT OUT (Ages 5-12)A great way for youth in grades K to 6th to have fun while their parents are busy preparing for the holidays. Out and About Encinitas- Get on Board!Are you an Encinitas senior citizen resident with no means of transportation? If so, you may be eligible to become a passenger. Volunteer drivers will take you to the grocery store, doctor appointments, pharmacy, Senior Center and many other locations in Encinitas. Call Gail Dupler, Transportation Coordinator at (760) 943-2256 to request an application. There is no charge. At the present time, approved Out and About Passengers are being put on a wait list. When additional drivers become available, passengers will be notified in the order the applications were received.

Out and About Volunteer Driver OpportunityThe Senior Center is always seeking more volunteer drivers to keep up with the Out and About passenger demand. RUSSELL VEIRS, saxophoneA California Bay-Area native who began private saxophone studies at the University of California, Davis, Russell Viers continued at California State University, Sacramento, where he completed his Master of Music degree. In 2007, he was runner-up in the CSUS Festival of New American Music Performers Competition, where he was a finalist the previous year. Russell recently earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in saxophone performance at UCLA, studying with renowned saxophonist Douglas Masek. At UCLA, he performed in numerous woodwind chamber ensembles and the contemporary music ensemble, Contempo Flux. HAYK ARSENYAN, pianoFriday, February 20, 2015, 7:30p.m. A native of Armenia, New York-based pianist-composer Hayk Arsenyan made his orchestral debut with the Armenian Philharmonic at the age of 11 performing his own Requiem for piano and orchestra. At the age of 17, Mr. Arsenyan made his European orchestral debut as a soloist with the Radio France National Philharmonic Orchestra, and was awarded a platinum medal by the City of Paris. He has appeared in numerous recitals in USA, Armenia, Russia, France, Italy, Spain, and Lebanon. Performance venues include Carnegie Hall (New York) Tchaikovsky Concert Hall (Moscow), and appearances at the Dame Myra Hess Concert Series in Chicago, and the Phillips Collection Concert Series in Washington DC. His live recording from Chicago’s Hess Series was released under the Naxos Music Library Label. Currently, Dr. Arsenyan teaches at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa and a Master’s degree from the Gnessin Music Academy in Moscow.
