In 2009, funding for redevelopment of the square was approved as the City’s largest Infrastructure Stimulus Fund (ISF) project budgeted at $40 million. Approximately two-thirds of the costs were covered by the provincial and federal governments, with one-third funded by the City.
Since opening in 2010, Celebration Square was visited by 3,204,790 people.
In 2015, 45 events were held over 153 days, and were attended by 505, 768 visitors.
The 2015 line-up included 8 major events, each with attendance of more than 20,000 people: Canada Day Celebration, Amacon Rotary RibFest, Irie Mississauga, Latin Festival , MuslimFest, Bollywood Monster Mashup, Mosaic Festival and the New Year’s Eve Celebration.
More than 200,000 skaters enjoy the ice rink between November and March each year. C
ELEBRATION SQUARE
Mississauga Celebration Square hosts a dynamic lineup of free outdoor activities year-round that showcase the arts, cultural diversity and talent Mississauga has to offer.
With a strategic focus on revitalizing the City’s Downtown core and an influx of population to 70,000 in the coming years, Mississauga Celebration Square is recognized as a focal point for urban growth in the area.
