Did you see whatjust popped up at
the corner of Broad Street and Clark? Three months after their groundbreaking on April 2oth, the Greater
Newark Charter School adopted lot has beds of vegetables growing in their community garden. Under the
leadership ofteacherAlex Marcoulides, students, staff, and volunteers have created the garden to empower
"our people with produce and educate our youth through hands learning!"
Thanks to assistance from the Greater Newark Conservancy and the NJ Tree Foundation, grants from Slow Food
NJ, the Whole Kids Foundation & Food Corps, and support from Central Ward Councilman Darrin Sharif the
Greater Newark Charter School's Green team's r,'ision for a communitv garden went from design to
implementation.
If you would like to join the school and community members in the garden send an email directly
to [email protected] with your first and last names, email addresses, & cell phone, and the numbers of
you and your guests. You will receive a confirmation of the date and time of the next garden work and play date.
The Greater Newark Charter School requires all garden visitors to wear boots, glor,es, & agree to behave in a safe
calm manner at all times while on site.
