CITY OF NEWTON PURCHASING DEPARTMENT INVITATION FOR BID #16-60

The City of Newton invites sealed bids in accordance with M.G.L. c.30, 39M from Contractors for:

DEDHAM STREET AND ADAMS STREET DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS

Bids will be received until:11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 10, 2016

at the Purchasing Department, Room 201, Newton City Hall, 1000 Commonwealth Avenue, Newton, MA 02459. Bids will not be accepted nor may submitted bids be corrected, modified or withdrawn after the deadline for bids. Immediately following the deadline for bids, all bids received within the time specified will be publicly opened and read aloud.

Contract Documents will be available on line at www.newtonma.gov/bids or for pickup in the Purchasing Department after 10:00 a.m., February 18, 2016. There will be no charge for contract documents.

The Bid consists of a Base Bid and one (1) Alternate.

The approximate scope of work of the Base Bid includes but is not necessarily limited to: Dedham Street: Construction of approximately 208-linear feet of 42-inch reinforced concrete drain pipe and 152 linear feet of 36-inch reinforced concrete drain, installation of catch basins, installation of three drain manholes, relocation of an existing water main, relocation/replacement of 112-linear feet of existing 8-inch sanitary sewer, relocation/replacement of water and sewer service connections, trench pavement, improvements to the culvert at Dedham Street over South Meadow Brook, including connection of the 42-inch drain to the culvert and other related tasks. Adams Street: Construction of 154 linear feet of 12- inch PVC drain, installation of one drain manhole, installation of 593 linear feet of structural cured-in-place pipe, trench pavement, and other related tasks.

The approximate scope of work of Alternate Bid No. 1 includes but is not necessarily limited to: Dedham Street: Construction of approximately 339-linear feet of 36-inch reinforced concrete drain pipe, installation of catch basins, installation of t wo drain manholes, relocation/replacement of water and sewer service connections, trench pavement, and other related tasks.

The work of the Base Bid must be brought to final substantial completion, exclusive of final paving and re-test inspection, within 170 calandar days, or if selected the Base Bid and Alternate Bid No. 1 within 215 calendar days of the start date fixed in the Notice to Proceed. The work of the Base Bid on Dedham Street must be brought to final substantial completion, exclusive of final paving and re-test inspection within the time period of June 29 to September 5, 2016. Time is of the essence in the performance of the work of this contract. Bidders attention is directed to the provisions in the Project Manual regarding the assessment of liquidated damages for failure to complete the work within the time specified.

Bidders attention is directed to the requirements of the City of Newton Supplemental Equal Employment Opportunity, Anti- Discrimination and Affirmative Action Program and also to the Minority/Women Business Enterprise Plan, December 1999, which is available on the Citys Purchasing Departments web page.

All bids shall be submitted as one ORIGINAL and two COPIES. The City will award the contract to the lowest responsible and eligible bidder.

A bid deposit in an amount that is not less than five percent (5%) of the value of the bid, including all alternates,
