San Jose Recreation Preschool

This class prepares your child for kindergarten with age-appropriate activities, learning concepts, socialization skills and fun. Your child learns the alphabet sounds, shapes and colors. The goal is to have fun, participate and learn. Chil-dren must be potty trained by the first day of class. Require-ments for parent volunteers, snacks, etc vary by center.

Tap/Ballet

A first introduction to ballet children learn basic ballet posi-tions, steps and routines. They dance to a variety of ballet and age-appropriate music, use props and have lots of fun! Parents may stay for first 10 min of first class and are in-vited back at the end of program for a class demonstration. Suggested Attire: Comfortable clothes or leotards, tights and tutus. Students may dance barefoot or wear ballet shoes. (Students cannot dance in socks or tights alone, must be barefoot or wearing ballet shoes)

This multi-sport program was developed to give 4 to 7 year-olds a positive first step into athletics. In Skyhawks Sports tennis programs, players learn proper grips, footwork, strokes, volleys, and serves during a series of drills designed to teach skills in a fun and dynamic way. Athletes also learn the rules and etiquette that make tennis an exciting game. Due to limited court space, these pro-grams fill quickly. All participants receive a t-shirt and a merit award. Teen Summer Camps

Ready for a summer of fun? Roosevelt Teen Center has your summer all planned out for you. Drop-in to hang out, play games, and make new friends. Campers will play sports, do arts & crafts, and take awesome field trips throughout summer. The camp runs Monday-Friday from 1:00pm-7:00pm and is a drop-in program. Field Trips are taken every week and may have special hours. Hours and trips are subject to change.

The "Roosevelt Film & Photography Camp" provides the youth, ages 13-24, a chance to experience several aspects of professional film and photography through hands-on pro-jects. During the six week camp, participants will be ex-posed to pre and post production, creating a story board, professional video and photography equipment, creating a short film, and much more! All participants will have the opportunity to showcase projects at the conclusion of the camp.

Camp San Jose @ Roosevelt

At Camp San Jose your child will participate in an unforget-table summer day camp experience combining summer camp traditions with enrichment and educational activities. Children will play crazy fun games, sports, create cool arts and crafts projects, sing funny songs and embark on a weekly field trip. Activities incorporate educational features disguised in fun and entertaining activities and projects. Price includes a low leader to child ratio of 1:10, field trips, a Camp San Jose shirt, skill building, new friendships, dis-guised learning and much more! Campers need to bring water, lunch* and sunscreen each day. *Check with your local community center for a complete list of field trips, lunch programs, early care, scholarships and payment plans. Each Camp San Jose session runs for 1 week. Field Trips (Subject to Change) For those needing early morning care (7am-8am), register for our AM Care for an ad-ditional $20 per week.

Enrichment Camps

Do you know how much knowledge your children lose over the summer? Enrichment Camps offer participants the op-portunity to keep their brains sharp over summer vacation! Students will develop new skills in the areas of Language Arts & Math.

Sports Camps

This fun, skill-intensive program is designed for beginning to intermediate players. Using our professional curriculum, staff focus on the whole player - teaching respect, team-work, and responsibility. An active week of passing, shoot-ing, dribbling, and rebounding makes this a popular pro-gram. All participants receive a ball, t-shirt and a player evaluation. Participants should wear appropriate clothing and gym shoes; bring a lunch, snack, and a water bottle for full day camps and bring two snacks and a water bottle for half day camps. Roller Hockey Camp serves as a great introduction to hockey or the perfect place to develop your skills! Partici-pants will learn the fundamentals of hockey including skat-ing, stick handling, passing, shooting, offensive and defen-sive strategy along with the rules and regulations of the game. Taught by skilled instructors, players will participate in drills and games to enhance their skills. All equipment necessary to play from head to toe will be provided (skates limited) so all that is needed is a desire to learn. Camps run Monday-Friday from 9:00am-1:00pm at Roosevelt Roller Hockey Rink in downtown San Jose. Please bring lunch and water to camp each day.

Northern California Jr. Sports Camp Junior Sports Camp covers introductory and intermediate instruction in both recreational and competitive wheelchair sports for individuals with physical disabilities ages 5-21. World class wheelchair athletes provide instruction in a vari-ety of sports. The camp is sponsored by the City of San José and Far West Wheelchair Sports. Campers can have a residential or day camp option. On line regis-tration is not accepted.

Camp Superstuff- Asthma Camp Every summer, Breathe California offers Camp Superstuff, a week-long day camp held within the region served by Breathe California of the Bay Area. This year, the City of San Jose, Mayfair Community Center, is partnering with Breathe California to offer Camp Superstuff. This camp is designed for children 6-12 suffering from asthma, Camp Superstuff blends asthma education curriculum with traditional summer camp activities.

Healthy Challenge Type 2 Diabetes Camp Is your child diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes or pre-pre-diabetes? Are they close to being diagnosed? Has your pediatrician encouraged your child to eat healthier, exercise more, or lose weight? If you said YES to any of these questions, then this camp is for you! Come have fun and learn about healthy lifestyle choices. This is a camp with art, sports, activities, healthy snacks, and diabetes education. A diabetes educator and dietician will be at the camp to answer questions and teach healthy living skills. Camp staff will get the kids moving and having fun! Ages 10-16. This camp is a joint collaboration between the City of San Jose and the American Diabetes Association. Chil-dren must qualify for this camp.

Playcamp These day camps are designed for children with cognitive disabilities who need a higher level of staff assistance for participation including those with Autism Spectrum disorder.. Activities will include arts and crafts, games, circle time, a field trip, and more. Children should bring a sack lunch to camp each day. Participants must be able to function in a 1:3 staff to child ratio and be independent with personal care needs.

Diabetes Camp– Type 1 This collaborative day camp program is provided by the City of San Jose's Therapeutic Services and California Dia-betes Association. There will be fun activities, outings, games, crafts, and diabetes education. Nursing staff will be on site to help monitor blood sugars and provide education to participants and families.

Teen Camp This camp is full of fun and games! We have a wide variety of cool structured activities for teens. We will do some arts and crafts, maybe a field trip or two, and some other special events. There may be an opportunity for inclusion with the teen center participants for some activities. These camps are designed for teens with cognitive disabilities. . Participants must be able to function in a 1:5 staff to participant ratio and independent with personal care needs.

The Community Room seats up to 250 for seated dinner style and up to 300 assembly style. A single classroom can accommodate up to 49 assembly style and classroom 1 & 2 combined can accommodate up to 98 assembly style.

Staff Cost $20 per hour All rentals require a minimum of one (1) staff member. The number of Staff required will be determined based on the number of guest you are expecting.

Security and Fees: A minimum of one (1) SJPD Officer or Security Guard is required at all events at the Roosevelt Community Center. The number of officers/security guards required depends upon the number of participants and type of event. Our staff will schedule the officer/security guard for the event. SJPD $46.50 per officer/Security Guard $25.00 per security guard Additional Deposit of $500 if Alcohol will be served and two (2) SJPD or Security are required.
