Nation of Islam (Malcolm X) - Believed in Black Nationalism - Were NOT nonviolent - Opposed integration

III Strategies used achieve goals

A. Nonviolence Methods

1. Worked to change laws (federal anti- lynching laws)

2. Sit-ins- Protesters sat themselves in segregated areas and refused

to move.

3. Freedom Rides- Interracial groups traveled the south challenging

segregated bus terminals.

Strategies continued

4. Marches- Peaceful protest at important places.

Ex. “March on Washington” 200,000 people & “I have a dream speech”

5. Boycotts- Blacks boycotted segregated places to cause change.

Ex. Chicago bus boycott lasted for over a year. (They won)
