Sojourner Truth was a freed slave who was born in 1797. She was married and had 4 children. Jackie Robinson was a black baseball player. He was the first African American to play major league baseball.

Matthew Henson was an African American polar explorer. He met Robert Peary and they started a expedition. On April 6 1909, Henson and Peary made it to the North Pole.
