Election 2015: Time to upskill in working with Ministers In this preelection period, the Policy Profession Team in Civil Service Learning are offering a range of events, courses and resources to help you brush up your skills in working with Ministers. This information is available on the Civil Service Learning website at: https://civilservicelearning.civilservice.gov.uk/workingministerselection Events Civil Service Learning is running 3 events in the run up to the general election on 7 May. Places at these events are limited and filling fast. To book a place or for further information, email: [email protected] Resilience and agility during this time of change This event is for grades 6 & 7 and will share knowledge on how to: respond when your priority for the past few years is cast aside make sure you adapt quickly to your new ministers’ priorities prepare your team for change when the scale of the change is uncertain This event will take place 2pm to 4pm on Thursday 23 April in London. Building an effective relationship with special advisers This event is for deputy directors and will offer: a practical grasp of what special advisers (spads) need from policy professionals an understanding of the political context in which spads work insights on how to help spads help ministers and the policy profession to develop policy tips for how to win and maintain the trust of spads This event will take place 2pm to 4pm on Tuesday 28 April, 10am to 12pm on Tuesday 5 May and 10am to 12pm on Friday 8 May in London. Winning the confidence of new ministers The event is for grades 6 and 7 will help you to: make a good first impression with your new minister engage ministers effectively in decisionmaking and successful policymaking ensure the political context and the ministerial perspective imbues policy development 1
