When did the civil war occur?

• The civil war began on April 12,1861 and ended on April 9,1865.

Who was involved in the civil war?

• The confederate states were, south Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, north Carolina, and Tennessee.

• The union states were, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin.

What alliances were formed during the civil war?

• The French were interested in the American civil war because they were getting cotton from the south. They we officially neutral. But union blockades we keeping cotton from leaving the south.

Who were the leaders for both sides of the civil war?

• The leader for the union was Abraham Lincoln. He was born February 12, 1809 and was assassinated April 15, 1865,he was the second child to Thomas and Nancy Lincoln. He was born in harridan county, Kentucky. Lincoln was born into a rich family but later on his father lost his land due to slavery. When he was 9 his mother died of milk sickness, and his older sister died in child birth. He later married marry Todd and they had 2 children together.

Who were the leaders for both sides of the civil war? continued

• Abraham Lincoln opened a general store but it failed soon after and left him in a 1000 dollar debt.

• Lincoln began his presidency shortly before the war started on November 6 1860

• The leader for the confederate was Jefferson Davis.

• He was born June 3,1808 and died December 6,1889.his first wife was Sarah Knox Taylor. His second wife was Varian Howell who he had six children but only one survived to adult hood He was in the military from 1828 to 1832

Weapons/vehicles

• The main weapons of the civil war were smoothbore muskets and rifles witch offered more range and accuracy then muskets. These consisted of .58 caliber Springfield's and Enfield's.

• When they got closer they would use edged weapon such as bayonets and swords.

• They also used artillery such as 12-Pounder Napoleon on ships and in forts for longer range attacks.

Weapons/vehicles continued

• The main vehicles used were horse carriages and wagons.

• They also used trains and boats to move solder quickly.

• The northern states had the most railroads and therefore could move faster

How did the civil war end?

• On April 9,1865 general lee and general grant met at the Appomattox courthouse.

• General lee handed over all supplies and signed papers saying it was over.

• Soon after the confederate army officially surrendered.
