How did you use media technologies in the

construction and research, planning and evaluation

stages?

Construction and Research

• Tripod- needed this to ensure that shots were steady and not out of focus. There is also a base plate attached to the tripod to ensure that the camera is held steady on the tripod.

• Camera- this is what captures all of our footage and is the most important technology that we have used.

• Green Screen- this is put in place for when you wish to change the background, so when used, you can change it so the person in focus can then be put anywhere. We used it for the floor so that you could not see the stage floor.

• Lighting set- this is also one of the most vital parts of our product. Lighting is essential as it is needed throughout the product. Especially in “Stan” one of our textual analysis, effective lighting was used throughout, especially in the basement scene.

• Camera charger- This is used as charging up the cameras and is needed on a frequent basis

• Smoke Machine- This was used to create more of an effect when I was playing the guitar, it is a very effective piece of equipment.

Planning and Evaluation

• Final cut express- this is used to capture all our work that we have recorded. It is where all the editing is done. There are many different icons and transactions available in final cut. A few of them are; cut, fade, dissolve, voiceovers etc. This is the most important thing in our editing

• Gimp- this is used for our ancillary texts. It is a new software and is very effective in what it does. It is quite hard to use but once you get the hang of it it is simple to understand.

• Grab- This was also used for when we would print screen things for our evaluation stage. It is the copy on the mac instead.

Final Cut Express

This is an example of how we have used final cut express. For this is our CD cover and we have taken the shot from one of the ones we got when filming. We had to play the footage until we got to the point we wanted to get to. When we were there we print screened the shot. However print screening is different in final cut as you need to click the button capture which is in the top left corner, from there another screen will come up with the item you have captured.

Green screenTo my left is how a green screen would be used for when filming a piece of work. However we did not use the green screen like that but instead we had it on the floor when we were doing a piano shot to ensure that none of the floor was seen.

As you can see to my left is a shot which we have used a green screen effectively. We put a green screen in behind me and then made it black to make sure that the background could not be seen.

Lighting

• To my left is a shot from our video which demonstrates the use of lighting. As you can see there is a visible light coming from both sides however it is not visible to see the background because the way we have situated both lights.

Smoke Machine

To the left is a shot in our music production of how we have used a smoke machine effectively. As you can see there is smoke in the bottom left hand corner which is generated through a smoke machine. This helps to give our piece in the video a more of a mystery feeling about it.
