This year we are doing something a little different! We are going to the orphanage in early April to celebrate Easter with our friends!

member highlight: Donors like Gary Lange.

Gary donated blood for the first time many years ago with his dad. He’s donated more than 5 gallons of blood in his lifetime. He donates as often

as he can, so long as he doesn’t have a half marathon coming up. He loves to run, and he likes racing because it keeps him focused on a goal.

Gary’s favorite thing about living in San Diego (besides the warm weather – he grew up in Michigan!) is taking photos on the beach at dusk. Thanks to Gary, many patients in San Diego get to share in life’s beauty with their loved ones too.

Most of you know Gary as a regular usher at the 8:30 a.m. worship time. Did you know that he also sweeps up the patio and front area before worship? He brings in the flowers to the church and is a “how can I help you” kind of guy. Please say Hi to him next time you see him!

Pastor Jon, Pastor Nate, and the CLC Congregation: I’m so grateful to God for his mercy and healing. I’m thankful for excellent doctors who cared for me. For Pastor Jon and Pastor Nate for their visits and words of care and encouragement bringing with them the the love of our congregation. I have felt the love around me with your visits and prayers. Thanks you Clairemont Lutheran Church. What a wonderful congregation you are! ~Mary Jo Flattum

The families of Marion Knipe, Sally Hall, Patsy Bannach, Leonard Seegers and Connie Martin on the death of her sister, Ralph Butlin on the death of his daughter, Lori Holland, Terry Ruland, Janice Gailey, Mary Jo Flattum.

building update:Check out the bulletin board on the patio to see some of the exciting plans. We voted at the annual meeting to move forward with drafting of plans for city permitting for our project. We are excited to form a team, start with a geotechnical investigation and hire some of those who will help us get there like a civil engineer, mechanical/electrical engineer and a structural engineer. This process should take about six months.

The Bannach family, LeRoy, Michael and Mark would like to express our heartfelt Thank You to the Pastors, our church members, and our many friends for your many prayers, cards, and condolences during Patsy’s hospital stay, and her passing. We are truly blessed to be surrounded by so many wonderful, caring and kind people. You truly are the village often spoken about.

“Multiple Meanings: Learning from Other Interpreta-

tions” By Mark Allan PowellThe winter 2018 Gather Bible Study is going to engender a lot of discussion. Mark Allan Powell is a professor of New Testament at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. He has also taught at seminaries in Estonia, Russia and Tanzania, edited the “Harper Collins Bible Dictionary” and written more than 100 articles and 25 books on the Bible and religion.

SESSION THREE: THE GOOD SAMARITANText: Luke 10:30-37This study will focus on the parable of the Good Samaritan. It will include examples of how this story has impacted culture, including cultures different from our own. How a story affects a person has a lot to do with that individual’s personal circumstances. Also factors of social location (age, race, gender, nationality, etc.) seem to influence the way people experience and understand stories.

Your Council President, Nancy Groesbeck, sends her thanks to all those from the congregation that attended the annual meeting of February 3rd. Lots of positive attitudes, valid questions, and good participation. Thanks also to the Budget Committee – their hard work and dedication led to a strong presentation and approval of the amended budget for the upcoming year. Our building committee continues to work with Alcorn and Benton, with upcoming meetings planned to discuss such things as a civil engineer, mechanical/electrical engineer, a structural engineer, and a geotechnical investigation – our exciting journey continues to move forward! Despite the unfortunate widespread flu and sickness of many within our congregation, attendance was up in January compared to 2017 numbers. Our interfaith shelter is well under way, and will continue through February 24th. We have 13 guests, and everything is running smoothly due to all of the efforts of James and Heidi Acosta, along with our many volunteer hosts. Our Lenten theme is Bold Women of Faith, and the tentative schedule of presentations includes:

•February 21 – 22: Ruth•February 28 – : March 1The Real Mary Magdalene•March 7 – 8 : Teresa of Avila, Mystic of God’s Presence•March 14 – 15: Doris Day, Servant of the Least•March 21 – 22: Anne Lamont, Modern Author

As a youth fundraiser, reusable grocery bags, adorned with our CLC emblem, are now on sale for $3.00 each. Available in the church office, and/or from our youth on Sundays following worship. Mark your calendars – our Spring workday is slated for Saturday, March 17th, from 9:00 AM until noon. Health and Wellness challenge kicked off as of February 19th and will run through Palm Sunday, 3/25. Not too late to join a team and enhance your physical and spiritual well-being – see Pastor Nathan

Health and Wellness challenge kicked off as of February 19th and will run through Palm Sunday, 3/25. Not too late to join a team and enhance your physical and spiritual well-being – see Pastor Nathan. The first of the Adult Education series presentations is scheduled for February 21st, with the topic of Hoarding to be covered. Following quarterly events will be held in May (addressing addiction) and August (addressing the topic of suicide).God’s Blessings to you all from your Church Council.
