The year 2009 is the 200th anniversary of the birth of our 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. In
an effort to expand on the celebratory nature of the year, the Clark County His-torical Society has created a committee to assist in the county’s planning. Society Members Charlie Gamm, Edie Breneman, Eleanor Macke and Amelia Stone have been working diligently with the City of Marshall Bicenten-nial Committee to coordinate events celebrating this mo-mentous man in our his-tory—a man who walked these streets and traveled our
roads during his circuit through the districts as a young attorney. The com-mittee would like to extend its thanks to the members who have contributed ideas toward the year-long planning that has been undertaken. The committee would also like to encourage members to contribute to these events, either as presenters, contribu-tors, assistants, or as specta-tors.

On March 19, 2009, the Clark County Historical Society spon-sored a table at the annual tables-capes event at the Marshall Pub-lic Library. Historical Society Members Edie Breneman, Ge-neva Evans, Patty Marrs, Caro-lyn Connelly and Amelia Stone all came together for this event and coordinated a table that was centered around the book Some Must Watch by Edwin Daly. Edwin Daly, a writer who be-

Rich-ard's summer and his adoles-cence end abruptly with the suicide of his father shortly be-fore the boy is scheduled to re-turn to college. The fictional town of Salsbury is Marshall, Illinois, where the author grew up in the 1950s.

The Marshall Public Library hosted the Lincoln Bicenten-nial Birthday Bash on the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday: February 12, 2009. The event in-cluded CCHS member Char-lie Gamm in period dress, giving demonstrations of civil war era weaponry, as well as several artists with works inspired by Lincoln. Among those artists were portrait artist Deane Lindley and sculptor Bill Wolfe, both of
whom displayed some amaz-ing and beautiful work. There were also historical displays of the works of Basil Moore and a signed original document presented by Joe Schroeder. The library had a wonderful turnout, the head-count totaling over 80 atten-dees. The Lincoln Bicenten-nial Committee members wish to thank everyone for their partici-pation!
