Gov. William Winter Continues

Support of Public Education

This week I had the honor of hearing Former Gover-‐ nor William Winter speak at the Mississippi Association of School Administrators’ Fall Conference. As you know, Gov. Winter is credited with passing the most dramatic education reform in Mississippi history prior to histime, the establishment of kindergarten for all children in our state. Today, he continues his Eight for public edu-‐

cation and the children we serve. He is not afraid to speak his mind when it comes to doing what is right for our teachers and students. After hearing Gov. Winter’s moving address, I am committed more than ever to spreading the word, “We must all stand behind public education.” Failure to do so will ensure teacher salaries and per student expenditures remain on the bottom. If we as a state ever hope to move from last place, schools and dis- ‐tricts must have adequate funding to offer additional accelerated courses, purchase new textbooks, increase technology, and reduce class size, among other things. Gov. Winter serves as an inspiration. It is my hope that we all continue to demonstrate his same passion for education in Mississippi by standing up in support of public schools.
