Once upon a time, a fisherman in Bangkok had twelve children. But being lazy he could not earn

enough to support his family. Alice was his most obedient and hard working eldest daughter. The

Sea Fairy took pity on her, and brought her the gift of a cod fish. She told the little one to

keep the bone after she had eaten the fish. „‟It is a magic fish bone,‟ the Fairy said, „and it will

grant you one wish, but only one. SO be sure to use it wisely.‟

On several occasions Alice was tempted to use her magic fish bone, especially when her youngest

brother was ill and when her sister was lost. But she managed to put things right by herself.

One day, however , Alice found her father very sad. He had no money left to buy food for the family.

He was desperate and sobbing. The young girl put her hand in her pocket and stroked the fish bone.

The Sea Fairy appeared and removed their poverty once for all. She even found handsome princely

match for Alice, so she never again felt the need of the magic fish bone.

The Clever Kid

A hungry and weak wolf was walking up the mountain. He thought to himself: „How difficult it is to

find a prey! Had it been possible, he would have gladly become a vegetarian.‟ All of a sudden he

saw a little goat. She was munching the grass on the hill top. Only a goat could ever succeed in

reaching there „Come down, you lovely little kid!‟, the wolf called in its honey0seet voice. „Be

careful not to slip !‟

I am quite happy and safe ! „ , replied the little goat. She had learned from her mother never to trust

wolves. „Thank you all the same, but you needn‟t worry about me.‟

The wolf, however, insisted: „Come down, Sweet! The grass is greener and much more tasty

here!‟

The goat gave him a hard look and said, „ My friend, can‟t you mind your own business, and feed on

green grass yourself?‟

With a leap, the goat climbed onto a more difficult rock.
