1About This QuiltWe made this quilt with multiple
yellow fabrics, but have patterned itwith just 4. We did maintain the samevalue in the same position in every unit.If you want the appearance of facets, besure to use 4 distinctly different valuesin the yellow prints. Touch of Sunshinegoes together quickly with strip piecingand stitch-and-flip techniques.
2Making the Quilt CenterJoin 2 dark blue tone-on-tone
13⁄4" strips with a 4" blue print stripas shown to make a band A. Make 14band A’s. Cut the bands at 61⁄2" intervalsto make the unit 1’s. Repeat the processwith medium blue tone-on-tone stripsand cream print strips to make the bandB’s; cut into 61⁄2" unit 2’s as shown.

Refer to the technique “Stitch & Flip.”Use the unit 1’s and A patches from the2 darkest yellow fabrics to make theunit 3’s. Press the seam allowancestoward the A patches. Use the unit 2’sand A patches from the 2 lightest yellowfabrics to make the unit 4’s, pressing theseam allowances toward the unit 2’s.
Sew 2 unit 3’s and 2 unit 4’s together tomake a block, keeping each yellow inthe same position in every block. Makea total of 42 blocks. Join 6 blocks to
make a row as shown. Press the seamallowances in one direction, alternatingthe direction with each row. Make 7rows and then sew the rows together.
3Adding the BordersJoin the border #1 strips end to end.
Cut this strip into 2 lengths of 87" forthe sides and 2 lengths of 80" for thetop and bottom. Sew the border #1 sidestrips to the quilt and trim any extralength. Repeat to add the border #1 topand bottom strips. Add border #2 in thesame way.
4Quilting and FinishingMark the Sky Diamond Quilting
over the A patches and in border #2 asshown. Layer and baste together thebacking, batting and quilt top.
Much of the quilt center can be quiltedcontinuously as shown by the arrows inthe quilting detail diagram. In the quiltcenter, quilt the units and markedmotifs as shown in the quilting place-ment diagram. Ditch quilt inside border#1. Quilt a straight line down the centerof border #1. Ditch quilt between bor-der #1 and border #2, quilting each SkyDiamond as you come to it. Bind thequilt.

techniqueStitch & Flip. Place an A patch on the cornerof a unit 1 or 2 as shown, right sides together.Mark a diagonal on A from corner to cornerand sew on the marked line. Trim the seamallowances to ¼˝, flip the patch open andpress. Repeat on the opposite corner.
