COUGAR NEWS May 15, 2015 No. 09 Clavet School ADMINISTRATOR’S MESSAGE With the approach of the May long weekend and the official start to summer in Saskatchewan, we are looking towards the end of the school year. This is associated with a number of traditional activities that students, staff, and parents always look forward to. The high school students are looking forward to track and field competitions; grade 12 students are looking forward to grad; and the elementary students are looking forward to the standards meet and year end field trips. It promises to be a busy end to the school year. Initial preparation is occurring for student placement in next year’s classes. The process to assign students to classrooms is undertaken with a great deal of thought and student programming needs are at the center of the decisions we make around class placements. Our goal is for every student to have the best opportunity to experience success. We take pride in maintaining a homeroom philosophy from kindergarten to grade 12 because we believe it is essential in maintaining home contact and addressing the needs of the whole child. In making the decision for student placements, we take into account 1. Resource Room needs to support student programming; 2. Teacher recommendations based on experience with the groups of students; and 3. Student sociograms to honour student voice. If you feel that you would like to contribute to the process, please submit your information in writing to your child’s homeroom teacher before June 1 st . Such information could include peer combinations to encourage or avoid; and any health or family concerns that may have an impact on a child’s potential to learn. NEWS FROM YOUR SCCA REMINDER THAT THE ANNUAL YEAR END TEACHER GIFT SUGGESTION OF $5/CHILD OR FAMILY, WHICH GOES TOWARDS THE STAFF YEAR END LUNCHEON, IS NOW UPON US.

ADMINISTRATOR’S MESSAGE

With the approach of the May long weekend and the official start to summer in Saskatchewan, we are looking towards the end of the school year.

We request that you remember and respect that this is not an opportunity to choose a teacher for your child; rather it is an opportunity to provide information to be considered in the placement of your child.

Enjoy the remainder of the spring.

DRESS CODE REMINDERAs the weather gets warmer we want to remind students and parents of our school dress code. Please note our school policy regarding student dress: “Students are expected to exercise good judgment and to take pride in their personal appearance. Clothing should be clean and neat. Clothing with offensive language, slogans advocating substance or alcohol use, vulgarities, prejudicial or sexist mottos are not acceptable. Student will be required to change their shirt or wear it inside out. The top of the students’ shoulders and their chests and midriffs should be covered. As examples, halter tops, tube tops, tops with spaghetti straps, and beachwear are considered inappropriate school apparel. Shorts, skirts and dresses should be a minimum of the student’s extended arm/fingertip length. Students will be asked to change or cover up with more clothing.

Students are not to wear outdoor clothing (parkas, jackets) in instructional areas. Each student is provided with a locker or cubby space in which to store outer garments and backpacks during school hours. Footwear is to be worn in the school. Students are not to wear headwear (hats, visors, bandanas, etc.) in the school. Hats must be

stored in lockers during class time. These expectations are not designed to hinder anyone’s right to choose clothes, but instead, they

are intended to assist students with the development of positive and responsible attitudes towards situationally appropriate clothing.”
