Certifi cate Programs

Certifi cateU.S. Customs Broker LicensurePreparation “U.S. Customs Broker Licensure Preparation” focuses on international trade, supply chain technology, and documentation requirements for the release of imported goods by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Licensed Custom Brokers perform on behalf of importers by processing documentation for the release of thier goods, but also on behalf of the Treasury Department in the timely collection of duties and taxes on those imported goods. Licensed Custom Brokers are in high demand and are paid handsomely for their expertise.

The objective of this course is to equip students with the information needed to earn a passing score on a licensure exam administered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. However, students should be aware that this course will require a lot of dedication and hard work on their part because the national average for passing the exam is very low. Anyone passing the National Exam is eligible to apply for a Customs Broker Lincense which will be issued to them by The Department of Homeland Security. A Customs Broker License allows the individual many opportunities in the fi eld of national trade, logistics, and customs business. A licensed Customs Broker may choose to work for an established brokerage company or importer, or they may choose to open their own customs brokerage business.

Program Requirements:

- high school diploma or equivalent;

- above average reading skills

- good basic math skills

- good moral character

Digital Photography Hands-OnImmersionWould you like to take better pictures, consistently? Do you want to get more organized with your digital photo collection, or edit your digital images to make each one look its best? In just two Saturday sessions, this hands-on course covers the skills that are needed to become a better digital photographer.

It begins with camera skills. The course explains the purpose of those unfamiliar controls found on digital cameras, and how they can be used to get better results. Students will learn how to avoid exposure mistakes, and how exposure controls can be used to create dramatic photographic effects. You’ll also learn valuable shooting techniques: how to choose the right lighting, when and how to use fl ash, and easy techniques for better photo composition.

The second skill is organization. Students will learn how to manage a growing collection of images on the computer, how to save steps when downloading images from the camera, and how to back up photo collections for safekeeping. You’ll also learn software tools for “tagging” images so they are easy to fi nd later and how to automate the process of emailing images.

The third skill is image editing. The course will help you choose the right software for your needs. It demonstrates how to improve any image with a basic edit (brightness, contrast, color balance, retouching) by doing the right steps in the right order. It also covers the powerful RAW fi le format, and how RAW impacts the editing workfl ow process. Please bring your camera, the instruction manual, and all your questions. If you have a laptop with Adobe Photoshop Elements (version 4 or higher), bring it to class and practice the computer skills as they are demonstrated!

North Georgia Wine TourYes, you read the title correctly. North Georgia has become a notable wine producing area, and their vineyards are already winning awards. Join us on Saturday, as we drive by motorcoach up Georgia 400 to Dahlonega, GA, for a day of tasting, shopping, and more tasting. Our fi rst stop is about 6 miles northwest of Dahlongea at Monteluce winery, vineyards, and residential development. This winery is designed to remind you of the great Tuscan vineyards, and they have done an excellent job. Their own grapes have not yet produced enough for their wines, but they offer an excellent selection of north Italian wines for tasting and purchase. Their tasting room offers a grand view of the North Georgia mountains, and you will be allowed to select several varieties for tasting. After leaving Monteluce, we drive back to the historic town square of Dahlongea and take two hours for lunch on your own and shopping in the marvelous shops of the downtown area. Mid-afternoon we drive north from Dahlongea to visit two more well known local wineries, Frogtown and Black Stock. These vineyards are located within a mile of each other, and their tasting buildings offer marvelous vistas of vineyards and mountains. Eight wines are offered for tasting and purchase at each winery. Following our third tasting, we will head back to Atlanta, hopefully with more appreciation and knowledge of this new aspect of Georgia agriculture. North Georgia has all the necessary attributes to become a great wine producing area, and hopefully you will bring some of their fi ne varieties back to share to with friends.

Motor coach pick-up will begin at Fayette Senior Services at 8AM, with an additional pick-up at CE Main Campus at 8 :30 AM, with arrival back on campus at 7PM and back to Fayette Senior Services around 7:30 PM.
