The Heber Public Utility District has adopted the State’s Mandatory Water Con-servation Regulations. You can find a copy of HPUD Resolution 2015-08 out-lining our water conservation efforts at www.heber.ca.gov or for more infor-mation visit the Imperial Valley United for Conservation at www.ivconserves.org.

Heber water customers can only water outdoor landscaping two days per week. They can be any days you wish, but only two per week. Here are some water saving tips:

Using a broom to clean outdoor areas can save 8-18 gallons per minute.

Adjusting your sprinklers to water plants, not driveway and sidewalks can save 12-15 gallons each time you water.

Water plants early in the morning to save 25 gallons each time you water.

HEBER COMMUNITY CENTER OPENING IN

OCTOBER! The new Heber Community Center was com-pleted over the summer.

The Heber Community Center is located at 1132 Heber Avenue, Heber.

The Heber Community Center will be the new home of the Heber Library and will open on October 12th.

The rehabilitation of the Heber Community Center was made possible by the combined funding and efforts of the California Depart-ment of Housing & Community Development (HCD), through its Community Development Block Grant program (CDBG), and the Coun-ty of Imperial. Construction for the project was just under $1.7 Million while the entire project cost was over $1.8 Million dol-lars. The combined funds is as follows:

HCD: $445,678.17

County of Imperial: $1,350,649

HEBER LIBRARY NEWS The Imperial County Library in Heber will be moving to the new community center at 1132 Heber Ave. They will close from Sep-tember 29th and reopen on October 12th at the new Community Center. The book drop will be available.

NEW PROGRAM: 1000 Books Before Kindergarten and “Kinder Cards”. We’ll be working with Dogwood School in October to try to get every kindergarten child a library card. The “1000” is a benchmark, children who have been exposed to that many books are better prepared to learn to read once in school, more apt to love reading and have stronger, larger vocabularies. So it is a win-win situation, parents get quality time with their children, the children benefit and earn concrete rewards as well.

STORY TIMES: for the fall are for October 27th with a Hallow-een costume parade; November 24th and December 15th . La devolución o regreso de libros estará disponi-

NUEVO PROGRAMA: 1000 Libros antes del Jardín de Niños y “Tarjetas de Jardín”. Estaremos trabajando con la Escuela Dogwood en octubre y trataremos de que cada niño de Jardín tenga una biblioteca de tarjetas. Adicionalmente, para los 1000 libros, los padres pueden inscribir a cualquier niño que todavía no asista al jardín de niños y apropiado para este programa y ganar recompensas por cada 100 libros leídos. Los “1000” es una meta, los niños que estén expuestos a esta cantidad de libros estarán mejor preparados para aprender a leer cuando estén en la escuela y serán más aptos a amar la lectura y tener vocabularios fuertes y amplios. Así que, es una situación ganar-ganar, los padres tendrán tiempo de calidad con sus hijos, los

niños se beneficiarán y también ganaran premios.

SHERIFF’S SAL PROGRAM SHOE DRIVE CONTINUES During the month of October the Sheriff’s SAL Program is continuing their shoe drive.

The goal is to raise 75 bags of 25 pairs of shoes per bag. Please donate slightly worn

shoes that still have life in them. The shoes donated will be sent to Central America

and other 3rd World countries to help them build their own micro business. The SAL

program will receive a donation for the amount of shoes collected which will help our

local youth programs.

Durante el mes de octubre el Programa SAL del Sheriff continuará su recorrido por

zapatos. El objetivo es juntar 75 bolsas de 25 pares de zapatos por bolsa. Por favor

dona zapatos medianamente usados que tengan todavía vida para usarse. Los zapa-

tos donados se enviarán a Centro América y otros países del Tercer Mundo para ayu-

darlos a construir su propio micro negocio. El programa SAL recibirá una donación por

el número de zapatos colectados lo que ayudará a nuestros programas locales para
