Intro: The scriptures continue to shape the conclusion of the liturgical year. The Gospel records the mounting tensions between Jesus and the religious authorities. Today in the Second Reading we begin St Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians.

First Reading: Is 45:1, 4-6 The Prophet Isaiah indicates that God chose Cyrus the Persian to free his people from exile. It was Cyrus and his army who marched on Babylon and released the Israelite exiles.

Second Reading: 1 Thess 1:1-5b The Reading is the beginning of St Paul's letter to the Thessalonians. After the customary greeting, Paul praises the Thessalonians for their faith, hope, and love.

Gospel: Matt 22: 15-21 The Pharisees try to trap Jesus in his speech. They ask it is lawful to pay the emperor a tax. Jesus responds by calling them hypocrites and poses his own question: Whose image is on the coin? When they respond that it is Caesar’s, Jesus concludes: ”Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God!”

Everything we are and everything we have belongs to God. We aren’t “owners” of anything, we are merely “stewards” of the gifts God has given each of us. All God is asking is that we give back a portion of what He gave us. This is the essence of Stewardship. God should be our first priority in everything. All else comes second.

Parish Pastoral Council September 2020 Meeting Overview

28 new parishioners registered in the parish thus far this year. Our welcome lady (Nilda

Planas) placed a welcome call to each and reached many. New parishioners are most welcome.

At the 8 a.m. Mass on Nov. 8, 4 children and 3 adults will receive the sacraments of initiation. (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation)

A full slate of teachers is signed up to teach Faith Formation classes. There are 24 students; some will Zoom. There are no second graders.

The youth theme for this year is “Pray, Prepare, Proclaim. Prayer: Building our Relationship with God.” They Zoom or meet in person on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays. 17 youths participate.

Live streaming of Masses at Our Lady of Grace has ended. We had a loyal following on about 45 computers for the 10:30 Mass.

The Faith Hope and Courage COVID recovery campaign is going well. Nearly 25 percent of parish households have participated.

Parishioners are urged to attend the Ministry Fair Nov. 21-22 and sign up for a ministry. Fr. Erwin is working toward a more solemn atmosphere in the church. Changes have already been

implemented. Courageously Living the Gospel is in its 3rd year. We all should be working at making it a way of life.

Sunday Gospel Reflections from Bishop Parkes Sunday, October 18, 2020

Give God what is His "Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God." – Matthew 22:21

In God We Trust. Four words that many take for granted. Based on our Gospel reading this weekend from Matthew, it seems ironic that these words appear on our currency. In the reading, we find the Pharisees once again plotting to trap our Lord, and thus, get Him into trouble with government officials and even the faithful Jewish community. First, they try to flatter Him with compliments, then ask a question about paying government taxes. He answers their question with a question, “Whose image is this and whose inscription?” as He looks at the Roman coin. They answer, “Caesar’s”. He then said, “then repay what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God.” The pharisees had no response as they were surprised at the answer. Jesus separates the two parties: the civil and the spiritual. He recognizes and acknowledges that government and fair taxes are necessary for and ordered society and to keep things running. Yet, the lesson is that God is the ultimate ruler of all things, not a president, emperor, dictator, prime minister, or leader. God makes all things possible. The founding fathers of our country used words like “so help me God” in the presidential oath. But, it wasn’t until the mid-1900s that the nation began putting “in God we trust” on coins and adopting the phrase as the national motto. Now more than ever, we must put our trust in God to guide our nation and bring peace to our divisions. We pay taxes to the government, but we are called to give our hearts and souls to God. The unfortunate reality is that many people have an easier time paying taxes to the government than opening their hearts to the Lord. Pray for the strength to give God what is His – your mind, body, and soul. - Bishop Gregory Parkes

Here I Am, Send Me!

Today, on World Mission Sunday, we respond, “Here I Am, Send Me,” to our baptismal call to mission, and we offer, at the Eucharistic celebration, our prayers and our generous financial support, through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, to continue the mission of Jesus. Today we are “sent” out to witness to mission in the world through our prayers and sacrifices for our brothers and sisters around the world. As little as… $25 helps support a catechist for a month in remote Latin America $75 provides for the work of religious Sisters caring for orphaned children in Africa $100 assists families in sending their children to schools in Asia As always, your prayers are your most treasured gift to the Missions. Your prayers and financial help, offered today, WORLD MISSION SUNDAY, support mission priests, religious Sisters and Brothers, and lay catechists who are Christ’s witnesses to a world so in need of His healing, love, and peace.

Give the Lord glory and honor.

Greeting ladies, we are happy to invite everyone to the Knights Hall for our next meeting. The address is 2389 W Norvell Bryant Hwy, Lecanto.

Mission Co-op on 24th and 25th of October 2020

Dear Our Lady of Grace, parishioners, and friends, I am Rev. Theobald Weria, ALCP; I am Parochial Administrator at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, Tampa, Florida. I am a life-time member of the religious community named the “Apostolic Life Community of Priests in the Opus Spiritus Sancti (ALCP/OSS).” It is a Missionary Community founded in Tanzania, East- Africa, in 1974 by a priest from Germany, Rev. Bernhard Heinrick Bendel. I will be preaching the mission Co-op plan at all masses on 24th and 25th of October 2020 at Our Lady of Grace, Beverly Hills, for the benefit of ALCP’s mission work in Africa.

Mission and charism: By living and witnessing to the Resurrection and Pentecost, ALCP members pray and work for the New Pentecost that the Lord may renew the life of the people and the world; “So that God may be all in all.” (1 Cor 15:28). ALCP members minister in the midst of the people in the world according to the charism of each individual so as to meet the needs of the people in many ways.

Ministry: As of 2020, ALCP members minister mostly in the parishes in Africa, India, Germany, Italy, The United States of America, and Canada. In Africa, ALCP members minister in the formation of the members, in the parishes, in the missions, in the pastoral care for the sick, and elderly both in hospitals and homes. Also, the ministry to social services such as health care centers, and education to pre-schools, grade and high schools.

Among the mission works in Africa, this year we are facing a great challenge. It is a pre-school named St. Joseph Kindergarten (nursery). It is a day pre-school of three years program. There are 80 children and 6 teachers. In 1999, ALCP created this school to help such children to have access to basic education as foundation, instead of seeing them on the streets with no future.

ALCP supports this school. We feed the children, clothing (uniform), medical attention, and school supplies. We pay teachers’ wages and the facility needs remodeling or renovations. Partly, we depend on our small farm to grow plants for food, but because of the effects of the weather patterns and drought in the past few years, the food has been a huge problem. Also, the current Pandemic has compounded the challenge. Currently, we cannot afford much to meet all the needs. We come to you asking for your support so as we continue to serve God’s people.

Fr. Theo Weria, ALCP. On behalf of: Superior General Very Rev. Charles Lyimo, ALCP Superior Delegate Rev. Nicholas Marandu, ALCP.
