Wireless Pilot
St Joseph’s Primary
Lochinvar
Purpose of Pilot• Improve wireless standards
• Investigate wireless security options
• Test hardware performance and security options
• Document wireless standards
• Present survey findings
• Recommend preferred hardware
• Record and report wireless effectiveness & reliability
What Did We Learn?• Netgear WG302 – Winner
• Site specific testing essential
• Running NetStumbler reduces thru-put
• NetStumbler required restart at each recorded location (no roaming)
• Thru-put at 20 SNR = Approx. 4-8 Mbps
• Dramatic fall and high fluctuation in thru-put below SNR 20
• 3 access points – no overlapping channels
• Client antenna has significant bearing on wireless performance
• POE – Flexibility, No power lead or GPO, Easy reboot
• External antennae – require further testing & careful consideration
Test Equipment Used
• Client - Dell D520
• NetStumber 4.0
• Bricks - Measure Thru-put (Mbps)
• AP - Netgear WG302
• POE switch - Netgear FS752TPS
