Script for Readers’ theatre

Ahab: Who are you?

Elijah: I am Elijah, a prophet. I am a servant of the living Lord, the God of Israel.

Ahab: Haa! And what do you want?

Elijah: I have a message for you from God Himself.

Ahab: And what is this message?

Elijah: God is going to withhold the rains from Israel.

Ahab: Is he now?

Elijah: There will be no rain, not even dew, until God gives the word.

1 Kings 17 v 10–11

When Elijah came near the town of Zarephath, he saw a widow gathering sticks for a fire. ‘Would you please get me a cup of water?’ he asked. As she left to get it, he asked, ‘Would you also please bring me a piece of bread?’

1 Kings 17 v 13–14

Elijah said, ‘Everything will be fine. Do what you said. Go home and cook something for you and your son. But first, please make a small piece of bread and bring it to me. The Lord God of Israel has promised that your jar of flour won’t run out and your bottle of oil won’t dry up before He sends rain for the crops.’

1 Kings 17 v 15–16

The widow went home and did exactly what Elijah had told her. She and Elijah and her family had enough food for a long time. The Lord kept the promise that His prophet Elijah had made, and she did not run out of flour or oil.

1 Kings 17 v 22

The Lord answered Elijah’s prayer, and the boy started breathing again.

The one true God!

Information supplied by Obadiah

1. Jezebel/Jessie had tried to kill God’s prophets.

2. Obadiah hid 100/1000 of God’s prophets in caves.

3. Obadiah met Elijah/Elias as he was looking for grass for the horses.

4. Elijah wanted Obadiah to tell Ahab/Jezebel where he was.

5. Obadiah was worried that God would take Elijah away and Ahab would reward/punish him.

6. Elijah promised Obadiah that he would meet with the king that very day/night.

1 Kings 18 v 18 (CEV)

Elijah answered: ‘You’re the troublemaker—not me! You and your family have disobeyed the Lord’s commands by worshipping Baal’.

1 Kings 18 v 21b (CEV)

If the Lord is God, worship him! But if Baal is God, worship him!

God keeps His promises!

Elijah: (looking to heaven) Lord God, please send the rain, as You promised.

Elijah: (to his servant) Look out towards the sea.

Servant: There’s nothing there.

Elijah: Look again. Are there any clouds?

Servant: Not one.

Elijah: God will keep His promise. Look again. And again!

Servant: Nothing. I have looked seven times but there are no clouds.

Elijah: I know that God will keep His word. Look again.

Servant: You are right! There’s a cloud coming this way. But it’s very small.

Elijah: God is sending the rain. Go and tell Ahab to get his chariot ready and head for home. If he doesn’t go now, the rain will stop him.

Elisha rap

1. The axe head fell into the river, plop!

But this was not too hard for God.

Elisha threw a stick and next thing you know

The axe head began to float.

2. The king of Syria made his plans,

Decided where the army would camp.

But ev’ry time, Israel knew

Exactly what the king would do.

3. No need to worry, no need to fear,

For fiery chariots had appeared.

The Lord sent them to save the day.

Elisha and his servant were totally safe.

4. Elisha told the king not to kill the men.

Instead he said … feed them!

After that you are to set them free.

Let them know the Lord’s mercy.
