Tim Horton was born in Cochran, Ontario on January 12, 1930. In 1949 he was drafted to the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was quickly recognized for his very exceptional defensemen skills. He played 17 full season and 3 partial seasons for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The first Tim Hortons franchise opened in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario. Serving only two products; coffee and donuts. When Tim Horton died, all of this possessions were left to his widow. She was under a lot of stress at the time and Ron Joyce offered to buy the remaining Tim Horton shares off her for a million dollars. She accepted, making Ron Joyce sole owner of the Tim Hortons chain. Soon after, he expanded and made Tim Hortons what it is today.
