David’s descendants (30-37)• This statement consistent with
God’s character (1 Sam. 15:29, 1 Cor. 1:9, 2 Tim. 2:13, Jas. 1:17, …)
• Was His promise conditional? Cf. 1 Kn. 2:1-4
• Did God force His people to follow Him?
David’s descendants (30-37)
• Note Vs. 34, 36-37 – what would endure? His throne and his seed Is there anything in these verses that precludes their fulfillment in heaven?
You have cast us off (38-45)• A strong description of Judah’s
rejection. Some this as going too far in accusing God of failing to keep His word
• Is the charge RASH?• Who abhorred the covenant?• Consider Rom. 11:33, 9:19-21
How long? (46-51)
• Psalmist asks for deliverance and soon.
• He recalls former times, BUT consider Isa. 55:8-9
•Vs. 52 – Believed to actually be conclusion of book 3

David’s Throne• Christ now reigning on David’s
throne – Acts 2:29-36
•1 Cor. 15:25-26, Heb. 1:3, 8; 10:11-13
• Our psalm promised, (33) His lovingkindness or faithfulness would not fail – in Christ it has not!
David’s Throne
• Finally, notice Jeremiah 22:30
• Spoken of Jehoiachin (Jeconiah), His descendants would NOT prosper sitting on the throne of David in Judah (cf. Matt. 1:11)
