Client: Department of Post, India Project Details: Computerization of Core Banking and Policy Life Insurance services for Department of Post, India - Department of Post is an undertaking of Govt. of India and has started providing banking and policy life insurance services (in addition to regular postal services) to 400 million plus people in India. I work in DBA team of 9 members that manages database infrastructure for DoP. The database infrastructure for DoP is one of the biggest around the globe and not many case studies are available for performance issues that arise. So, the project presents unique challenges and learning opportunities in the field of database administration. Responsibilities: Monitor and troubleshoot Severity 1 and Severity 2 database related issues in Production, UAT (User Acceptance Testing), Training and SIT (System Integration Testing) environments of around 200 RAC and Non-RAC databases on AIX, Linux and Windows platforms. Address tickets within SLAs and follow up with the stakeholders. Provide extended support on call/remotely beyond normal work hours on rotation basis to support critical issues. Follow change management process to create/drop RAC and Non-RAC databases, for planned shutdown/startup of databases, to carry out structural changes in databases as per application team requirements, etc. Create SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) documents for important activities carried out on databases, and add solutions to generally faced problems in run book. Identify critical issues based on daily circulated tracker sheet and weekly calls, and expedite the resolution to such issues. Apply latest CPUs (Critical Patch Updates) as and when released by Oracle. Liaison with Oracle Support for product related issues.

Project Details: Computerization of Core Banking and Policy Life Insurance services for Department of Post, India - Department of Post is an undertaking of Govt. of India and has started providing banking and policy life insurance services (in addition to regular postal services) to 400 million plus people in India. I work in DBA team of 9 members that manages database infrastructure for DoP. The database infrastructure for DoP is one of the biggest around the globe and not many case studies are available for performance issues that arise. So, the project presents unique challenges and learning opportunities in the field of database administration.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor and troubleshoot Severity 1 and Severity 2 database related issues in Production, UAT (User Acceptance Testing), Training and SIT (System Integration Testing) environments of around 200 RAC and Non-RAC databases on AIX, Linux and Windows platforms.

• Address tickets within SLAs and follow up with the stakeholders.

• Provide extended support on call/remotely beyond normal work hours on rotation basis to support critical issues.

• Follow change management process to create/drop RAC and Non-RAC databases, for planned shutdown/startup of databases, to carry out structural changes in databases as per application team requirements, etc.

• Create SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) documents for important activities carried out on databases, and add solutions to generally faced problems in run book.

• Identify critical issues based on daily circulated tracker sheet and weekly calls, and expedite the resolution to such issues.

• Apply latest CPUs (Critical Patch Updates) as and when released by Oracle.

• Liaison with Oracle Support for product related issues.

Client: Center for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), India

Project Details: Integrated Coaching Management System (ICMS) is used to provide business intelligence to client for effective freight management. I have managed DBA operations in this project.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze queries used by BI reports and share guidelines with developers for effective SQL writing.

• SQL Performance Tuning – generate execution plans using AUTOTRACE, SESSION EVENTS and TKPROF, create needed bitmap/simple indexes using CPU/IO cost of queries, use hints for using/not using indexes in queries to reduce the execution time of queries.

Page 2: Client

• Communicate with all stakeholders to identify performance bottlenecks in the database and apprise them about performance gains after database/SQL tuning.

• Handle configuration issues of database instances.

• Timely generate AWR and ADDM reports to monitor the overall health of databases in RAC environment and take appropriate actions such as sizing memory structures, redo logs, ASM groups, tuning queries, etc.

• Monitor the alert log files of all the databases and troubleshoot errors if any.

• Apply patches as and when required.
