LeadeNHaLL MarkeT, LoNdoN eC3calfordseaden is hosting its Christmas Function at Leadenhall Market, a thriving
centre in the heart of the City steeped in history. Nowadays, its cobbled walkways
and glass roof make it an attractive place to shop, eat and drink and simply to relax.
Acelebrated character in Leadenhall’s history was ‘Old Tom’, an eighteenth
Century gander that escaped execution when a recorded 34,000 geese were
slaughtered there in just two days. He became a great favourite in the
market, including being fed at the local inns, and after his death at the age of 38
he lay in state in the market before being buried there.
Leadenhall Market is situated between Bishopsgate and
London Bridge; entrance to the event is via the New Moon
Public House on Gracechurch Street. The nearest tube
stations are Bank and Monument.
