Introduction

AppliDis allows you to use your computer to run an application which is executed remotely, the

data from which is sent to you via your network (Internet or intranet). From your point of view,

everything works just as if the application was installed locally on your computer.

You can now run applications on your computer which would normally have required too many

resources to run. This is because your computer now simply acts as an interface: the actual

running takes place on the remote server with the greatest availability to perform the requested

operation. An intelligent load balancing strategy establishes which is the most suitable server

based on the application requested, your user profile and the hardware environment (CPU,

memory, network, etc.).

There are several different ways of using AppliDis from a client desktop, depending on the type of

your client desktop:

• For the client desktops listed below, you can use either the AppliDis Web Portal or

AppliDis Desktop to run AppliDis clients.

• For "thin" client desktops with only a "Terminal Server client" (also known as "RDP client"

or "Remote Desktop Connection") available, you need to use AppliDis Thin Desktop).

This method of accessing AppliDis can also be used by non-Windows clients. Under Linux,

for example, it is possible to work with AppliDis using the rdesktop client.

Requirements and configuration

for the AppliDis Web Portal and

AppliDis Desktop

Basic requirements for the AppliDis Web Portal and

AppliDis Desktop

AppliDis runs on all versions of Windows from Windows 2000. To use the AppliDis portal, all you

need is version 6.0 or higher of Internet Explorer. Depending on your exact operating system, you

will need to use the following configuration settings:

With Microsoft Window 2000, and if the AppliDis applications server is Microsoft

Windows 2000 Server operating system:

If your network administrator has activated the AppliDis option which enables redirection of your

local disks (see "Saving with disk redirection activated", p. 42), and if the remote server on which

your application is running has a Windows 2000 Server OS (for more information, contact your

network administrator), you will have to install file sharing on your machine under Windows 95

and Windows 98 to be able to take advantage of the redirection (for other client OSes, sharing

requires no manual action on your part). Likewise, if the AppliDis applications server has a

Windows 2003/2008 Server OS, no manual action is required.

Activating sharing

1. In the Start menu, click on Settings, then on Control Panel

2. Click Network. A window named "Network" opens.

3. Go to the Configuration tab.

4. Click on the File and Print Sharing… button.

5. In the window that opens, check the I want to be able to give others access to my

files box.

6. Click on OK, insert the Windows CD-ROM and restart the machine after installation.

Activating access control

Once file sharing is activated for your files, redirecting local disks is possible. However, for reasons

of confidentiality and security, you can restrict access to your local drives which are automatically

shared by AppliDis to only users working with AppliDis from your computer. This action

(management of access privileges for your local drives) is automatically handled by AppliDis after

you turn on the "User-level acess control" option. Again, this function only needs to be switched on

manually if your operating system is Windows 95 or Windows 98. To install this option:

1. In the Start menu, click on Settings, then on Control Panel.

4. Select User-level access control.

Requirements for AppliDis Client for Java

AppliDis gives you access to your applications from a Windows or Linux client using Java

technology. This client works from the Mozilla Firefox browser and is run in Seamless mode.

AppliDis Client for Java runs as a Java applet (included in your Firefox browser), which requires the

following information:

- "Mozilla Firefox 3.5.3" available from: http://www.mozilla.com/

- "Java 1.6.0_17" plugin for Mozilla available from: http://www.mozilla.com/

- Operating system: Windows, Linux with KDE or Linux with Gnome.

Additional requirements for AppliDis Desktop

In addition to the previous requirements (see "Basic requirements", p10), the machine also needs

at least Internet Explorer 5.5 when AppliDis Desktop is running on machines with Win 95, Win 98,

Windows NT, Win XP, VISTA or SEVEN operating systems.

Configuration of Microsoft Internet Explorer

This section details the necessary Internet Explorer configuration for using the AppliDis web portal

and installing AppliDis Desktop.

When the AppliDis Administration Server is configured in authenticated mode (IIS default

configuration), it is advisable to add the address of this server to the list of "Local Intranet" sites

for your Internet Explorer browser.

For Windows XP users working with Service Pack 2 (SP2), this step is essential.

The Internet Explorer browser will need to be configured before you can download ".cab" files from

the AppliDis client site. To do this, simply add the name of the machine hosting the AppliDis

administrator within the local Intranet zone.

1. Open Internet Explorer on all your client desktops.

2. Go to Tools, then Internet Options.

3. In the window which opens, go into the Security tab (see Then select Local intranet.

5. In the new window which opens, click on the Advanced button…

6. Add the site http://nomadminapplidis/ where nomAdminAppliDis represents the name or

IP address of the AppliDis administrator server (if you do not know this

information, ask your network administrator).

7. Make sure the box Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone

is unchecked.

8. Click on the Add button.

9. Finally, click on OK.

Should you use Microsoft Windows XP (including Service Pack), the explanation above is a

compulsory step requested in order to be authorized in downloading the AppliDis ‘Cab’ files.

Checking the permissions for your security zone

Adding the AppliDis administration site to a security zone (see preceding paragraph) is sufficient if

the security level assigned to the "Local intranet" category is the default level. This is how to check

that the security level is at the default setting:

1. Launch Internet Explorer.

2. Go to Tools, then Internet Options.

3. In the window which opens, go to the Security tab.

4. Then select Local intranet or Trusted Sites.

5. If the Default level button is grayed out, then you are already in the default

permission mode and the permissions are sufficient.

Adding permissions to a security zone

If the security level applied is not the default setting ("Default Level" button is not grayed out in

the preceding paragraph), you must add the necessary permissions manually (or check that they

are already configured correctly):

1. Launch Internet Explorer.

2. Go to Tools, then Internet Options.

3. In the window which opens, go to the Security tab.

4. Then select Local intranet or Trusted Sites.

5. Click on the Custom level... button.

6. Set Run ActiveX controls and plugins to Enable.

7. Set Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt.

Note: With the "Prompt" setting for the "Download signed ActiveX controls" option, you will get a security warning message when:

� you log on to the website if you have not yet used AppliDis Internet Client on your machine.

� the website you log onto has a later release of AppliDis Internet Client than the version installed on your machine.

Then click on yes during this security warning.

Microsoft Windows Vista Professional particularity

Client side installation

First of all, check that you did not install an old component on your Vista station;

If you installed AppliDis Client3.0.msi, it should be uninstalled via Add/Remove Programs.

If you installed an old version of the Internet Client (earlier than the 3.0.0.57 version), it

should be removed (to do this, consult the procedure described below).

Procedure for removing Internet Client under Vista

Warning: when you carry out this operation, ensure that no Microsoft Internet Explorer browser is

using this module, i.e. open within an AppliDis page.

Launch Internet Explorer. In the Tools menu, select "Manage Add-Ons > Enable or Disable Add-

Ons".

• To start the installation, you need a local desktop administrator or a domain

• You can run the Internet AppliDis Client installation only if Microsoft Internet Explorer

is running with the protected mode enabled (the status of this mode is visible at the

Installing MSI files on Microsoft Windows VISTA and SEVEN Operating Systems

Should you find that you need to install programs via MSI files or make changes to a Microsoft

VISTA or SEVEN Operating system requiring Administrator access, or even if you need to access

files or folders of another user, but don't want to log out and log back in as that user, you can use

the 'Run as administrator' command.

Right-click on the file or program you wish to run (you can right-click on executable file names in a

Windows Explorer window, or you can right-click on programs listed in the Start menu, i.e. the

command prompt program below).

Use the AppliDis web portal to start

remote applications

Log on to the AppliDis portal and run an application via

Internet Explorer

The AppliDis web portal is an initial option for running remote applications from a Web page.

Another option for running AppliDis clients is described in the next chapter (see Use AppliDis

Desktop to start remote applications, chapter 4).

The requirements for installation of AppliDis ("Basic requirements for the AppliDis Web Portal and

AppliDis Desktop" p. 10) and configuration of Internet Explorer ("Configuration of Microsoft

Internet Explorer" p. 11) must be fulfilled before starting this chapter.

Note: The first time an application is run remotely from a client desktop, an ActiveX component is downloaded locally. To be able to download this component (which will be kept for all users of the machine, even after it has been restarted) you must be logged in as a local or domain administrator when the operating system on the client desktop is one of the following: Win NT, Win 2000, Win XP.

Logging on to the AppliDis portal

1. Launch an Internet Explorer browser (version 5 or higher).

2. In the address bar, enter http://nomAdminApplidis/AppliDis where nomAdminAppliDis

represents the name or IP address of the AppliDis administrator server (if you do

not know this information, ask your network administrator).

3. By default, you reach an authentication page. (see: ). Enter your domain login and

your password (the same as that used to open your Windows session).

4. If your administrator has activated automatic logon, you can check the Automatic

Connection box to avoid having to enter this password again when you next log on to

AppliDis.

5. Click on the OK button.

Select the application to be run remotely

1. After authentication (see preceding paragraph), you reach the page showing applications

available remotely.

2. The applications are presented and classified by membership of groups (for example, an

'office' group could contain the applications Word and Excel).

3. By clicking on Select a group of applications you can choose to display only

applications belonging to one particular group of applications.

4. Now click on the application which you want to run.

5. If this is the first time that AppliDis is run on the client desktop or if an AppliDis

update is available, a security warning message appears.

6. Accept the installation of AppliDisClient.cab by clicking on Yes.

7. After a few seconds, the remote application launches.

Using AppliDis with Mozilla Firefox

AppliDis gives you access to your applications from a Windows or Linux client using Java

technology. This client works from the Mozilla Firefox browser and is run in Seamless mode (the

remote applications are integrated perfectly on the client's desktop). The user accesses both local

and remote applications from the desktop.

Information regarding AppliDis Client for JAVA

The current version of AppliDis Client for JAVA is only provided for test purposes. In fact, this

version of AppliDis Client is a beta version and has only been tested in an university environment,

and it is not ready to be used in production, that is why no support will be provided for it.

Please, keep SYSTANCIA’s support informed about your questions, difficulties and observation

during your experimentations with AppliDis Client for JAVA, in order to help to improve this

product, and completely integrate it in a future version of AppliDis.

Systancia will disclaim all responsibilities if the AppliDis Client for Java is used in a production

environment.

The Java client does not support the following functionalities:

• Client printer redirection.

These functional limitations can be overcome by integration techniques directly on the desktop, in

particular by the use of Samba.

Installation

On Windows operating systems, the components of AppliDis JAVA Client are included in AppliDis

Client MSI. You will find more explanation about AppliDis JAVA Client’s installation in the following

technical sheet:

Using AppliDis Desktop to start

remote applications

The use of the AppliDis portal detailed in the preceding chapter allows the running of remote

applications by AppliDis from a Web page. Using AppliDis Desktop will allow you to run remote

applications directly from shortcuts located on your desktop or from a directory normally located in

Start->Programs->… or to open a file (located on your client desktop PC) by double-clicking with

an application run remotely.

AppliDis Desktop thus offers a second way of launching remote applications.

In this way, there is no visible difference between a remote application opened by AppliDis

Desktop and a remote application opened by the AppliDis applications portal: they have identical

behaviours, detailed in the following chapter (chapter 5, Functionalities of applications run

remotely by AppliDis).

Installation and configuration of AppliDis Desktop

AppliDis Desktop is installed from the applications portal. This installation requires you to have at

least Internet Explorer 5.0 and on a Windows 95, Windows 98 or NT system to have at least

Internet Explorer 5.5. The requirements for installation of AppliDis and configuration of Internet

Explorer (you will find them in chapter 2 of this document) must be met.

Lastly, if you wish to take advantage of shortcuts to the AppliDis applications on your desktop and

in the Start menu->Programs (these functionalities are explained in the paragraph "AppliDis

Desktop configuration", p. 40), you must have read/write permissions for the "Desktop" and "Start

Menu" directories. You will find these directories in "Documents and Settings\user name". By default, users have these permissions, and you will only have to reconfigure them if they have

been manually changed.

Note: At the time of this installation, an ActiveX component is downloaded locally. To be able to download this component (which will be kept for all users of the machine, even after a restart) you must be logged in as a local or domain administrator if the operating system on the client desktop is one of the following: Win NT, Win 2000, Win XP.

Installation of AppliDis Desktop

The installation is performed once and once only on the client desktop. Then, any user opening a

session on this client desktop will have AppliDis Desktop.

1. Launch an Internet Explorer browser (version 5 or higher).

2. In the address bar, enter http://nomAdminApplidis/AppliDis where nomAdminAppliDis

represents the name or IP address of the AppliDis administrator server (if you do not

know this information, ask your network administrator).

3. By default, you reach an authentication page.(see Erreur ! Source du renvoi introuvable.). Enter your domain login and password (the same as you used to open your Windows session)

4. Click on the OK button.

5. Now go into the Options menu.

6. Click on the AppliDis Desktop Client button.

7. After a few seconds a warning window appears. Accept the installation of

AppliDisBureau.cab by clicking on Yes.

8. At the end of the installation, a red light appears in the taskbar next to the clock.

AppliDis Desktop configuration

AppliDis Desktop provides a certain number of options which will allow you, for example, to select

the location from which you will be able to run your AppliDis clients (from the desktop or from the

Start menu ) as well as start-up options (automatic start-up when opening a session without

authentication).

1. Once AppliDis Desktop is installed (see preceding paragraph) a red light appears next

to the clock.

2. Double-click on this red light.

3. An authentication window then appears. Enter your login and password (the same as you

used to open your Windows session).

4. If your administrator has enabled automatic login, you can check the Automatic login

box to avoid having to re-enter this password during your next login to AppliDis.

5. Then click on OK.

6. The light next to the clock then changes to green. Right-click on the green light. In

the window which opens, select the Configuration option…

7. A new window named AppliDis Desktop Client Configuration opens (see Figure 44 -

AppliDis Desktop Client configuration (User & Start Options). 8. By checking the My AppliDis applications on the desktop box, all the AppliDis

applications which you are authorised to use are placed on the desktop in the form of

shortcuts. The remote application opens when you click on the shortcut.

9. By checking the My AppliDis applications in the Start menu box, all the AppliDis

applications are added to Start menu->Programs->Applidis Applications. They are

classified by application groups. The remote application opens when you click on one of

these shortcuts.

10. By checking the Associate files with AppliDis applications box, you open the file (by

double clicking) via an AppliDis application when the extension is managed by one of

your AppliDis applications (for example a double click on a ".doc" file will open this

file via a remote Word application if you have a contract for this application).

11. By checking the Run "AppliDis Desktop Client" on starting the system box, you allow

AppliDis Desktop to run automatically at the start of each session.

12. Finally, by checking Automatic login, you authorize AppliDis Desktop start-ups without

having to re-enter a password.

Note: File association only works if the administrator has authorized redirection of local disks. Moreover, this file association is deactivated as soon as the light next to the clock is red. You can change it from green to red and from red to green by double-clicking on it with the left mouse button.

Running applications while using AppliDis Desktop

1. Depending on the configuration chosen for AppliDis Desktop (see AppliDis Desktop

configuration p. 40) you could start running applications remotely in one of three

different ways.

2. The first method is to double-click on one of the shortcuts created by AppliDis on your

desktop.

3. The second is to run it via Start menu->Programs->AppliDis Applications.

4. Finally, the third method is to double-click on a document whose extension is

associated with an AppliDis application.

5. After any of these three actions, an AppliDis Client opens.

Shutting down an application

Shutting down an application running remotely is very simple: just close the application (usually

by clicking on the closing cross in the top right corner of the application).

Backing up a document

While working under AppliDis, the only change from the back-up perspective relates to location. If

your administrator has activated redirection of your hard and removable drives, you can back up

to the hard and removable drives of the client desktop from which you are accessing AppliDis.

However, if the administrator did not activate disk redirection you will need to back up to a

network resource.

Back-up with disk redirection activated

If the AppliDis administrator (in most cases, this is your domain administrator) has activated the

disk redirection option, then while backing up one of your documents, the following window

appears:

Your local disks appear in the form: "Letter on NAME OF YOUR MACHINE". For example if your

machine is named MOOREA and your hard drive has been assigned the letter C:, you can back up

to this drive by selecting "C on MOOREA". Disks are listed in alphabetical order (from A to Z).

Moreover, if your AppliDis administrator has left visible the letters of the server on which your

remote sessions is running, they will appear under "Diskette (A:)", "Local disk (C:)".

Note: If the applications server on which your application is run has a Windows 2000 Server operating system, your local disks appear in the form: "Letter_$ on `name of your machine'". For example if your machine is named Japan and your diskette has been assigned the letter A:, you can back up to this by selecting "A_$ on `Japan'". They are listed in reverse alphabetical order (from Z to A).

Printing with AppliDis

You have access to printers installed:

� on your machine (local printers and on the network) if your administrator has activated this option in AppliDis (redirected printers).

� on the server machine (on which your application is actually run). � and on your machine, via the AppliDis Print Universal Driver (Advanced Version only).

Redirected or mapped printers

When you use AppliDis, your local printers appear in the list of available printers in the form

"printer name (from your ClientMachineName) in the session X" where X represents the

session number and ClientMachineName represents the name of your client desktop.

Note: If the applications server on which your application is run has a Windows 2000 Server

operating system, then when you use AppliDis, your local printers appear in the list of available

printers in a precise format:" printer name/name of your machine/a session number" and your

network printers appear in the list of available printers in a precise format:" __Name of print

server_Name of printer driver /Name of the client desktop/Session number".).

Server printers

These are printers connected to the applications server: printers local to the server and the

network printers of your user profile.

AppliDis Universal Printer

If your AppliDis environment has the "AppliDis Universal Driver" option, by selecting this printer

you redirect your printing to your desktop and can thus print to any printer installed on your

desktop.

If your administrator has configured transfer data display, the following dialog box appears

showing the progress of the printing data.

You can if you so wish select the printing properties specific to your printer. The printing properties

dialog box is specific to your printer.

Note: Once you have made a page selection on the universal printer, you cannot change this at the client end. Other options can, however, be edited.

Logging off and logging on again to an application

Because AppliDis runs your application remotely, your client machine becomes a single machine

intended for displaying an application run permanently on a remote server. The display can simply

be interrupted and resumed from the same or another client desktop.

The job can be repeated even without having backed up the document (however, it is always

advisable to back up the document before logging off the application).

Remote applications opened from the AppliDis application portal can be restarted from the AppliDis

Desktop mode and vice versa.

Logging off from an application

1. After having opened a remote application via AppliDis (from the applications portal or

AppliDis Desktop) it appears in the taskbar. It is advisable to make a backup of your

document at this stage. Now right-click on its icon in the taskbar. A window appears.

2. Select the Log off option (see Figure 51 - Logging off from an application)

3. The application (and all other applications run remotely in the same AppliDis session

on the server) then disappears from your screen.

Logging back on to an application from the AppliDis Web Portal

After having logged off an application, you can restart it from the applications portal.

1. Launch an Internet Explorer browser (version 5 or higher).

2. In the address bar, enter http://nomAdminApplidis/AppliDis, where nomAdminAppliDis

represents the name or IP address of the AppliDis administrator server (if you do not

know this information, ask your network administrator).

3. By default you arrive at an authentication page. (See Logging on to the AppliDis portal

p. 34). Enter your domain login and password (the same as you used to open your Windows

session).

4. Click on the OK button.

5. Enter the Opened applications menu.

6. The list of logged off applications appears. Viewing the launch time for the

application and the log-off time can help you to find the application to be restarted.

After choosing it, click on Restart (see Figure 52 ).

7. The application then opens at the same point where you left it while logging off.

Logging on again to an application from the AppliDis Desktop

You can also restart an application logged off from AppliDis Desktop.

1. After AppliDis Desktop has been installed, a red light appears next to the clock in the

taskbar.

2. Double-click on this red light.

3. An authentication window then appears. Enter your login and password (the same as you

used to open your Windows session), then click on OK.

4. The light next to the clock then changes to green. Right-click on the green light and,

in the window which opens, and please choose the Go on with... option.

5. A list with all the logged-off applications appears. Select the application to be

restarted and click on this.

6. The application reconnects where you left it while logging off.

Microsoft 2008/R2 UPN (User Principal Name) compatible

The UPN access method is now supported for AppliDis authentication using the UPN for accounts

created on Microsoft Windows 2003, 2008 and 2008 R2 Active Directory servers. Users are now able to logon using their UPN account such as [email protected]. This logging method offers

users to have a simplified user name.

Example: [email protected] instead of [email protected]

This new feature concerns the following AppliDis client access methods:

• Through the AppliDis Web Portal,

• Through the AppliDis Desktop Client,

• Through the Bureauvirtuel (AppliDis Locked down desktop),

• Through the SLB plugin,

Normal mode or application

mode

The choice between the two modes is made by your AppliDis administrator, and can vary from one

application to another. By default, all applications available in AppliDis are in the application mode.

However, your administrator may have reconfigured these applications for normal mode, for

various reasons. The characteristics of these two modes are thus described here.

Seamless mode

In seamless mode, no window frame surrounds an application as if it runs remotely. There is

therefore no apparent difference between this virtual application and an application which runs

locally on the client machine.

Furthermore, in seamless mode, all applications will run within the same session on the AppliDis

applications server. Consequently, after opening the first application, any additional application

launched on the same server of AppliDis applications will be faster (if the load balancing function

redirects you to the same server).

Normal mode

In normal mode, all applications run by AppliDis are surrounded by a window named "AppliDis

client". Each application requires a new session on the AppliDis applications server. Thus opening

any new application takes some time while the session opens.

Using AppliDis from a thin client

AppliDis works with any type of thin client implementing the RDP protocol, regardless of the on-

board operating system (Linux, CE, CE .NET, XPe, etc.).

Configuration of thin clients

The use of thin clients with AppliDis requires the following configuration settings on these devices:

• Application Server or Gateway Server address (if several AppliDis servers are deployed).

• Service port (to be configured by default to 3389 for login to Applications Server and to

5300 for login to an AppliDis Gateway server).

• Program to launch to open the session: extmenudis.exe.

Note: Some types of thin clients do not allow the service port to be set. Consequently, this

remains at 3389. Contact AppliDis support for the configuration of these desktops with AppliDis if

you use a Gateway server.

Configuration of thin clients running Win XPe

Some thin clients natively load the Windows XPe operating system (XP Embedded). Depending on

the XPe components installed by the manufacturer (generally hard-wired into a ROM), AppliDis can

be run directly from the integrated browser. In this way, the user logs in to AppliDis through the

portal and starts up his application by clicking on the icon.

Use of AppliDis ThinDesktop

Once the session to the server is opened, you will find an interface rather similar to the

conventional Windows interface: presence of a "Start" button giving access to the AppliDis

applications classified by groups, clock showing the current time: you use the AppliDis

ThinDesktop module.

Opening a session from a thin client equipped with the AppliDis SLB client

A specific client module is available for certain types of thin client allowing simplified, secure login

to the AppliDis ThinDesktop.

Running applications

From the open session (session which contains the taskbar with the "Start" button and the clock)

you can run applications via AppliDis. These applications will use AppliDis load balancing and thus

be launched on the most suitable server.

1. Click on Start.

2. Click on My applications.

3. Select the group of applications which contains the application to be run.

4. Click on the application to be run (see Figure 60 - Running an application).

Logging off an application and logging back in

Applications run by AppliDis can be logged off and restarted later. To log off the application:

1. Right-click on its icon in the taskbar.

2. Select the Log off option (see Figure 61 - Logging off from the Desktop).

To restart the logged off application:

1. After logging off an application, click on Start.

2. Select Restart jobs (see Figure 59).

3. Finally, click on the application to restart.

Closing AppliDis ThinDesktop

You can exit AppliDis ThinDesktop in two ways: either by logging off from the session hosting this

module (you will be able to recover your work from another thin client desktop), or by closing the

session.

1. Click on Start.

2. Select Log off in order to log off your session or select Close to close the session.

AppliDis Thin Explorer

The AppliDis Thin Explorer module is complementary to AppliDis ThinDesktop. It provides the user

with a file explorer. In this explorer, users can click directly on the file of their choice to launch a

suitable AppliDis application.

Launching AppliDis Thin Explorer

After opening AppliDis ThinDesktop, follow the above steps to launch AppliDis Thin Explorer:

1. Click on Start.

2. Click on My applications.

Advanced use

MSI manual installation

AppliDis clients can also be deployed directly by users on their desktop PC if they have Local

Administrator privileges for their desktop PC in NT4, 2000 or XP. N.B. manual installation by MSI is

not supported for Windows 95 or Windows 98, for which only installation via the portal is possible.

The AppliDis requirements for NT4 to XP platforms remain valid.

Configuration data

The configuration data and information you need before installing the AppliDis client are as follows:

Components to be installed

By default, the installation will install all AppliDis client components on the desktop: The

Internet client (mandatory), Desktop and Launcher. If you access AppliDis only from the

portal, you can deactivate the installation of the Desktop and the Launcher.

Administration Server

Enter the AppliDis Administration server in this field. In redundancy mode for

Administration servers, you must enter the virtual IP address as configured by your

Administrator. Ideally, a DNS alias for WINS is created for this IP address.

Test that this setting is accessible by accessing the AppliDis portal:

http://serveur_administation/applidis

or

http://ip_virtuelle/applidis

If the applications portal appears, the setting is correct.

Installation

Obtain the Install AppliDis Clients package from your Administrator.

1. Obtain the Install AppliDis Clients package from your Administrator.

2. Double-click on the MSI file contained in this package.

3. Click on Next in the Welcome screen.

4. Accept the license, then click on Next.

5. Select the type of installation, Complete or Custom, then click Next.

6. If you select Custom mode, a screen enables you to select the Desktop or Launcher

components individually and also to change the installation directory. Then clickn Next.

7. In the next screen, enter the name of the AppliDis Administration server which the

Administrator has given you. If you use neither the Desktop nor the Launcher, leave

these fields blank.

8. Set "Start Desktop Automatically" if the Desktop must log on automatically to the

Administration server each time your desktop starts up.

9. Set "Launch AppliDis Desktop after installation" to make the Desktop active immediately

after installation (if not, it will be active as of the next session opening).

10. After installation, click on Finish.

Automated Deployment

The MSI package facilitates automated deployment of the AppliDis client in your environment if,

for example, you are in Active Directory and your clients are in Windows 2000 Pro or XP. It is also

compatible with various third-party tools for automated deployment of applications. Contact

AppliDis support for more information.

Restrictions on the client side

Several points must be taken into account in order to use the multi-monitors functionality:

Maximum resolution (The maximum supported resolution is 4096*2048 pixels, consisting of

adding the screen resolution from each monitor). This maximum resolution is the resolution

reference determining the number of monitors that can be used.

Monitors must have the same resolution

Monitors alignment (Monitors horizontal alignment is the only alignment mode supported;

hence it is currently not supported to « pile up » monitors in a vertical manner).

Main monitor (It is required that the main monitor to be selected is the first monitor located from

the left side of the monitor).

Full screen activation

From the Windows Display settings (please right click on your local desktop-> properties), check

that the second monitor (and any other additional ones) do have the « Extend the desktop onto

this monitor » option ticked.

Operating System registry parameters

On the AppliDis Applications server (only), a default registry key is set offering the possibility to

modify the multi monitor management settings and furthermore the full screen management

option.

The key in question is named « EnableMultiScreen » and it is set within the registry

in« HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Systancia\AppliDis\MotorGraphic ». This registry key is a

DWORD type.

- EnableMultiScreen with value set as 1:

This is the registry key value set by default. When users set an application in full screen mode, the

application spreads across only the active monitor.

- EnableMultiScreen with value set as 0:

When the value is set to 0, multi-monitors display following the Microsoft RDP protocol 6 behaviors.

When users set an application in full screen mode, the application spreads across all available

monitors.

Use of the AppliDis Launcher

Integration

The AppliDis Launcher component allows an application to be launched from the command line on

a desktop PC. The MSI installation makes it possible to set this component automatically. If you

are performing a manual installation, after installation of the AppliDis Internet client, copy the

"Launcher" file located in the "Tools" folder in the AppliDis installation directory on your disk.

You can find more details in the Technical IS00117 document.

Working with AppliDis Launcher

When one or more applications are logged off, the dialog box below appears and invites the

user to select an application to be logged on again. The "New" button means you can start a

new instance of the application rather than restart a job.

If the requested application is present only once in logged off mode, it can be logged on

automatically without interaction from the user, by configuration.

Use of the Microsoft Terminal Server desktop via

AppliDis

This functionality makes it possible to launch and use Terminal Server desktops through the

AppliDis tool in the same way as conventional applications.

You must configure from the Microsoft RDP client (mstsc.exe). Starting the program

"AdisBureau.exe", on the Microsoft Terminal Server client options from the "Programs"

tabulation.

How to use the AppliDis MyApps catalog?

The AppliDis MyApps catalog is a new functionality offering a new accessibility communication

option to the users and in the meantime facilitates administration tasks.

Administrators have the possibility to create a catalog which contains few or all the

applications. This catalog is then available to the users who request application access to the

Administrators.

Users’ access requests are accepted or refused by the Administrators. Each user can as well

add comments or ratings about one or several applications he/she has access to. This piece of

information is valuable and necessary for both the Administrators and the users.

Should the administrator activate the MyApps Catalog option, a new menu appears within the

client portal. By default, users do not have access to any MyApps catalog application.

MyApps catalog applications are then available from the tabulation/icon entitled “MyAppS

Catalog” (right side of the screen below)

Users are allowed then to:

- Request access to one or several applications,

- Read comments from other users (rights and permissions applied),

- Add comments or ratings (rights and permissions applied).

When users request access to one or several applications, an access form with empty fields

appears.

Users have then the opportunity to:

- Fill in a comment to the Administrator,

- Select his/her access mode,

- Add his/her email address (this functionality is currently not available in

FUSION 4.0).

Please click on « Save Request » in order to validate the access request form.

Your access request form has been saved, you may want to get back to the MyApps Catalog main

page in order to select one or several applications.

If a user wishes to leave a comment or a notification about an application from the catalog, a new

box shows up « Be the first to comment about this application ». Please click on it in order to

comment about the application.

Two empty fields allow users to add comments about one application. Users have as well the

opportunity to set a rating from a drop down list menu. Please, do not forget to click on “Save” in

order to validate the comments.

The access status which was set by an Administrator is summarized as:

- Published or,

- Granted or,

- Refused.

As soon as an administrator has given access to one or several application(s) to one or

several user(s), the application(s) is/are available from the tabulation/icon MyApps Catalog.

A user has now the possibility to request a change to his/her application access, to read

comments from other user(s) and finally to add his/her own comment.

Microsoft Windows Remote Desktop feature

Within the previous versions of the AppliDis software, administrator(s) and/or user(s) AppliDis

were allowed to publish or virtualize applications and Windows Remote Desktop.

This functionality allowed users to get access to a remote access environment running on a

Microsoft Windows Operating System such as 2000; 2003 and/or 2008 server. Virtualizing a

desktop allows users to get access to a Microsoft XP, VISTA or SEVEN desktop.

User is granted access to an environment as if the operating system is locally executed on the

users’ desktop. The operating system in question will be hosted on a remote server thanks to

the hypervisor component.

A Microsoft Internet Explorer browser from a Windows XP, VISTA or from a Windows XP

embedded thin client is requested in order to launch a desktop.

Please note that the functionality mentioned above is currently not supported with

the Mozilla Firefox browser.

When an administrator activates the remote desktop feature, a new menu named “your

desktops” appears within the Client portal page.

And then, users have the possibility to select available desktops depending on Windows

Operating Systems they wish to run:

- Microsoft Windows XP,

- Microsoft Windows VISTA,

- Microsoft Windows SEVEN.

Users are offered to display permanent or non-permanent desktops:

- Permanent desktops are similar to roaming profiles. When user logs off, the

changes made to the desktops are saved. A user's unique permanent desktop is

automatically available when he or she logs on to any computer.

- Non-permanent desktops are reinitialized every time a user logs back on.

A message appears while a selected desktop is being launched: « Please wait while the desktop is

opening ».

Similar to the remote access applications, there is an option to reconnect disconnected

desktops. If a desktop is disconnected from the desktops menu, the desktop list window is

blurred suggesting the application can be reconnected.

VirtualDesktopUserConfigurator tool

The VirtualDesktopUserConfigurator tool allows a user to choose whether or not the

applications need to show up from the menu and / or the icons need to appear from the

published desktop.

Moving application(s) from right to left within the configuration program below hide the

application(s) you selected from the right column (i.e. Calc.exe, Explorer, Microsoft explorer,

Ms Paint are currently accessible, if they are moved to the left side of the tool, they will be

hidden.

NetworkPrinterConfigurator tool

If your administrator activates the network printers for the AppliDis virtual desktops, the

NetworkPrinterConfigurator tool is available from the Tools menu.

This tool offers the possibility to manage network printers which were authorized by your

network administrator.

You are entitled to change your default network printer and/or to have access to printer jobs

queuing up in the printer spooler.
