MENTORS NEEDED FOR LOCAL NON-PROFITCAPITAL REGION – Spring is coming and with it a time to renew, re-group, and re-prioritize. What better way than to begin a new volunteer opportunity! I am I can, a mentoring program for girls in grades 9-12, is seeking professional wom-en to work with new students to the program. As a mentor you would spend time with and get to know your student on a one-to-one basis, while developing a relationship that provides support and guidance in achieving their post-grad-uation goals. This program focuses not as much on job skill mentoring, but more on providing a positive role model in the student’s life. The organization is currently looking for mentors in the Clifton Park to Glens Falls areas. Immediate needs are to support girls in Shenendehowa, South Glens Fall, Glens Falls and Ballston Spa school districts. If you have time on a weekly or bi-weekly basis and would like to have a positive impact on a girl in your community, please visit our website at www.iamicanachieve.org or contact Founder, Avon Scherff at 688-3010 x102 or at [email protected].

2015 PROJECT EASTER BUNNY CAPITAL DISTRICT – Floydwarriors.com “Helping Families Cope with Cancer, One Household at a Time” is very pleased to announce its 6th annual run of Project Easter Bunny. Floy-dwarriors.com founder Lisa Morahan began this eff ort after experiencing Easter Sunday in 2009 too ill to make one bas-ket up for her son while in the middle of chemotherapy treat-ment. In 2010 enough toys and candy were collected to make up 100 baskets, 135 in 2011, 190 in 2012, 225 in 2013 and 290 in 2014. Our goal is to collect enough new small toys and candy for 350 baskets this year and add yet another oncology center to our list of glad recipients. Several area cancer orga-nizations and hospitals caring for cancer patients will receive this year’s bounty so children of those in treatment will have a nice big basket to open on Easter morning. Locations to re-ceive baskets hope to include The CR Wood Center at Glens Falls Hospital, Samaritan Hospital in Troy, The Mollie Wilmot Radiation Oncology Center at Saratoga Hospital, The Com-munity Hospice of Saratoga, The Hope Club in Latham, New York Oncology Hematology of Albany and Rexford, CRAAB, To Life! and families helped by fl oydwarriors.com. If you are interested in helping this eff ort, please bring unopened candy and brand new small toys to donate to the following locations until March 17th: The CR Wood Center in Glens Falls Hospital, The Malta Community Center, Bella Rouge at Clifton Park Center, The Hope Club in Latham and any Ballston Spa National Bank location.

Hey Everyone, I’m Trip. I’m a hound dog so pretty much the only I care about is treats! If you have treats I’ll be your best friend! But the nice thing about
looking forward to treats is that I should be easy to train. I would love a home with lots of room to run around and maybe a canine brother or sister. Could I
come home with you?

Leigh-Poe’s Pups
Darla
These two pups ended up in a high kill shelter as an owner turn in. Can you
imagine. They are sweeties and beautiful to boot. They
were born on New Years Eve and are about 9-10 weeks old. They have been given shots, wormed and vet checked.
This is Darla! We pulled her in her final hours before she was
facing the unthinkable. She is simply stunning and absolutely loves attention. She is approximately a 15
week old Shep/Boxer/Pit mix that has had her vaccinations, health certificate, de-wormed,
and more. She seems to be very smart and would make a great addition to any family.

SELDOM-HEARD SAINT PATRICK'S DAY FACTSThere are many things the public knows about Saint Patrick's Day, but there's much they may not know about the holiday or Irish-American heritage for that matter. Here are some facts and trivia that might surprise even the most devoted of Patty's Day revelers.
* Despite St. Patrick being alive centuries earlier, St. Patrick's Day celebrations didn't begin until 1737.
* More people of Irish heritage live in the United States than currently live in all of Ireland. Irish-Americans living stateside predominantly reside in the North Atlantic states.
* Saint Patrick angered the Celtic Druids many times by converting pagans to Christianity. The Druids put him in jail on numerous occasions.
* Green is not the official color affiliated with Saint Patrick. It is really blue. However, green be-came a familiar hue during the nineteenth century more for being associated with the magic of Irish legends than Saint Patrick himself.
* The three-leaf shamrock has more historical significance with regards to Saint Patrick's day than a four-leaf clover. That's because the three leaves were believed to be used by St. Patrick to explain the Christian doctrine of the Holy Trinity, where God exists as three persons.
* For 67 years, Saint Patrick's Day was a "dry" holiday in Ireland. James O'Mara, a member of Irish parliament, introduced a bill in 1903 that made Saint Patrick's Day a religious holiday in the country. Therefore, local pubs were obligated to close. The law was overturned in 1970.
* According to their Web site, Hallmark has been selling green Saint Patrick's Day cards since the early 1920s, now selling as many as 15 million annually.
* Contrary to popular belief, Ireland does not top the list with respect to showing Irish pride. New York City boasts the largest parade honoring the holiday and Irish heritage.

PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN (Never known to fail). Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary con- ceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me, I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted. Favor granted. E.P.

REMEMBER ALMOSTGRACIOUS Virgin Mary that never was it known that any- one who fled to thy protection employed thy help or sought thine intercession, was left unaided. IT INNOVATION IS CREATING CAREER OPPORTUNITIES (NAPS)—Technology is a driving force in today’s economy, powering innovation and creating jobs. The rapid adoption of cloud computing, mobility, social media and other innovations has accelerated the importance of technology in the workplace—and the need for informa-tion technology (IT) technicians.
Desktop support has long been one of the most fundamental jobs in all of IT. However, what was once a reactive job—waiting for the phone to ring or an e-mail to arrive summoning you to fix a broken PC—has evolved into a proactive position that’s far more critical to day-to-day business operations.
More Than Maintenance
Technology “maintenance” is much more sophisticated in 2015 than it was 20, 10 or even two years ago. Today, it involves supporting handheld devices (iPads and Androids), rolling out software to thousands of computers and conducting server migrations. Today’s IT technicians get hands-on experience and insight into fast-changing technologies, including cloud com-puting, cyber security, data analysis, mobility and telecommunications.
There remains in some corners a misperception that the majority of IT support jobs have been shipped overseas. The reality is that in many orga-nizations, there are new, more significant opportu-nities for technicians. And the IT technician’s role remains the best, first step someone can take to launch a career in technology.
Knowledge Workers
Today’s engineers and technologists are knowl-edge workers, possessing a unique combination of skills that can’t be easily outsourced or delegated.
With IT departments becoming more closely inte-grated with other lines of business, the technical
knowledge and skills employed by IT technicians are something that can’t be delivered ef-ficiently or effectively over the phone from a call center.
Is It Right For You?
If you have an interest in technology, along with the ability to solve problems and possess strong people skills, you may be a candidate for a career change and step into a job as an IT technician with a minimal amount of training—either in a classroom, online or through self-study.
One way to tell if you have the aptitude is the CompTIA IT Fundamentals certification. This professional credential is available through CompTIA, the nonprofit association for the IT in-dustry. The exam covers five categories: software, hardware, security, networking and basic IT literacy.
Earning a credential from an organization well known and widely respected for its certifica-tion program demonstrates to prospective employers that you’re ready to enter the IT work-force. It can also serve as a springboard to more advanced IT skills certifications and set the stage for new career opportunities and advancement.

Motorcycles Return To Ballston Lake This Weekend
This has been a good winter for motorcycle racing on the frozen lakes of southern Saratoga County. In late January, the Electric City Riders, based in Schenecta-dy, held the first large scale event in years at Browns Beach on Saratoga Lake before some 500 participants and spectators, and just a couple of weeks back they took their show onto icy Ballston Lake, hosted by Vil-lago Pizzeria & Ristorante. Both events were viewed by hundreds of spectators and participants, and the exploits of the riders on the ice were captured in pic-tures and spread on social media. It has truly been a memorable season for the fans of these races. Due to the wide popularity of such events, it has been decided to add an extra day of racing on Ballston Lake. Villago will once again host the event, on Sunday, March 15 from 8AM till dusk. The weather is forecast to be mild (but hopefully not too mild!), and it will be a great day to be outside enjoying the late winter air as the racers perform their acrobatic maneuvers. Motorcycle racing on ice is an extravagant affair, with the bikes sporting special ice tires and driven on the slippery surface at breathtakingly fast speeds, engines blaring as the racers jockey for position. The March 15 event isn’t planned to be a typical racing series, but rather just some “good ole fun”
according to race organizers. Racers will arrive at 8AM for signups, with the festivities continuing throughout the day. Thanks to Daylight Savings Time, they can continue later into the evening. Food and beverages will be available at Villago just across the street, at 175 Lake Road, open Sunday between 11:30AM and 10PM. Contact Villago at (518) 280-0311 or at www.villagopizzeria.com, and more information on the Electric City Riders is available at (518) 542-2144 or at www.electriccityriders.com .

DID YOU KNOW?A vehicle identification number, or VIN, is more than just a unique code that distinguishes a car from other vehicles. The VIN can actually tell drivers things about the car as well. By examining the VIN, a driver can learn where his or her car was assembled, the model year of the vehicle, the manufacturer of the vehicle and even the model of the vehicle. How to read a VIN is not something drivers learn in educational courses, so those who want to learn how to decode their VIN can con-tact the manufacturer of their vehicles. Understanding how to read a VIN can help car buyers determine if the car they are buying is stolen or if the seller is attempting to mislead them in another way. In addition, when drivers have the correct VIN number for a vehicle, they can use that to gain access to a vehicle history report on the car or truck. Such reports will indicate the vehicle’s ownership and accident history, further protecting buyers from purchasing a lemon or stolen vehicle.

Peter Alessandro
As you may know, my firm markets personal insurance for life, disability, health and long term care. In addition, we provide professional tax consulting and preparation of business income tax returns, including trusts and estates.
After working thirty-three years for the New York State Judicial Branch in the financial division and serving twenty-eight years in the U.S. Army on active and reserve duty, I had the opportunity to be the principal in my own business and chose that over a traditional retirement.
My objective is that clients could be better served once their needs and goals are identified and solutions developed from among the companies that meet stringent requirements to do business in New York State. By using cost and benefit analysis, clients can be better served by obtaining the most value for what they are willing to spend for voluntary benefits. This can ef-
fectively be accomplished by brokering to multiple companies rather than dealing with just one company. Similarly, no client should pay more taxes than required and it is essential that all credits or refunds be
provided in spite of the complexity of the tax code. There are income tax free provisions available and some penalties of the Affordable Care Act can be avoided, but they are not automatic. Professional advice for tax preparation can be rewarding.
My business philosophy is to do what I enjoy most, which is helping people. Many years ago when my older brother was ill one Saturday morning, he asked me to deliver orders for a butcher shop where he worked. That was my first job at 13 years old and since that time I have built up a lifetime of qualifications to serve clients. I am fully licensed as a NYS insurance broker for over 30 years. My BBA degree was earned from Bernard Baruch College in NYC in 1969 as well as an accounting certificate from Siena College in 2003. The Enrolled Agent designation, which allows taxpayer representation in civil matters before the IRS, was earned in 2013.
If you need any assistance- in the areas discussed above or simply would like to discuss your particular situation, feel free to contact me at 518-250-0913 or e-mail [email protected].
