ByThomRandall•[email protected] WARRENSBURG - It was a quirky incident that drew national attention due to a woman’s remarkable honesty - which prompted a Warrensburg enterprise to reward her actions. Patty Wesner of Cossayuna was driving on her way to work Feb. 26 down a desolate, rural roadway when a bag of $11,000 in $1 bills flew out from the back of an armored truck and into the roadway in front of her vehicle. She stopped, collected the bills, and called 911. The troopers responding to the scene called it an “unbelievable” act of honesty. Frank Toti, General Manager at Krystal Chrysler, saw the news report on televi-sion and was impressed. That newscast described Wesner as less than wealthy - and she could have easily used the cash - as she used a bungee cord to keep the hatch-back door on her 2002 Toyota Sequoia to keep it from flying open unexpectedly. This situation impressed Toti, he said this week, recalling how he sought to help her out. “When I first heard the story I thought how she is quite a role model,” he said March 14. “Then I heard she had an older high-mileage vehicle and a bungee cord holding her car door closed, and I thought, we’d like to do something about it.” After work that day, Krystal Parts Manager Bob Olden and Service Manager Andy Studler drove to her house in Cossayuna - not a short trip - to determine what was needed to fix the door latch.
March 11, Wesner brought the car in for repair, and the Krystal employees includ-ing Mike Poutre not only fixed up her car, but Toti bought her lunch and filled up her tank with gasoline. Krystal staffers even washed the vehicle. “I thought it was appropriate to do something for her,” Toti said. “Her actions made us all proud to be Americans.” Also, Toti heard that Wesner was going to receive a reward from Brink’s Inc. for her honesty, and she had plans of donating it to the Pember Library & Museum in Granville. “Her donation of the reward was even more amazing, so I made a contribution of $100 to the library,” he said. Apparently others nationally share Toti’s feelings about Wesner and her honesty. Pember Library & Museum, where Wesner is Executive Director, has received
more than $800 in donations from people all over the U.S., Wesner said this week. She’s been interviewed by leading U.S. newspapers and one in England, and was named “Person of the Day” by the Huffington Post. Regardless of all the publicity - which included network television coverage, Wesner is thoughtful, humble and is a true Good Samaritan, Toti said.
“She sent us a beautiful thank you card,” Toti said. “She’s one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met.” Thursday, Wesner returned the compliment. “Krystal and their employees - they are the best!” she said. “They were so sweet.”

Krystal Chrysler employees (left to right): Frank Toti, Andy Studler and Bob Olden recently reached out to help a Cossayuna woman days after she picked up and returned $11,000 in cash that fell from the back of a Brink’s truck – and action that prompted national attention. To reward her honesty, the Krystal staff fixed and washed her car, and also bought her lunch.

Baskets of HopeCLIFTON PARK – Members of The Chamber of Southern Saratoga’s Women In Business Committee are reaching out to the community for help with their charitable initiative, Baskets of Hope, which supports the daily needs of Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services of Saratoga County (DVRC). The Committee seeks donations of women’s personal care items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. Donated items are as-sembled into gift bags by committee members and given to victims entering the shelter with the hope that the recipient will take comfort in knowing there are people in their own com-munity who care and want to help. Baskets of Hope, an on-going program of the Women in Business Committee, is now in its seventh year thanks to the support of generous Chamber and community members. Anyone who wishes to participate in this worthy program can do so by bringing donations to The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County Office at 15 Park Avenue, Clifton Park (behind the Shoppers World Plaza) dur-ing regular business hours, Mon.-Fri., 8:30am-5pm. Questions about the Baskets of Hope or the Women in Business Commit-tee should be directed to Chamber Member Services Manager Liz Roggenbuck at 371-7748 x108 or by email at [email protected] (A)

SOLD
Did You Know?Men and women looking to finance the purchase of their next vehicle could potentially fall victim to a practice referred to as “spot deliver-ies.” Consumer advocacy groups warn that spot deliveries, in which a car is sold “on the spot” before the financing has been completed, can leave consumers with average or below average credit vulnerable to abuse. When a person wants to finance a vehicle purchase, the dealer-ship must first find a bank to approve their loan application, a process many banks do not do on nights or weekends, when many people are inclined to shop for a vehicle. During a spot delivery, a dealer-
ship will allow the consumer to drive off the lot with the car, even though the consumer has yet to be approved for a loan. In some cases, the lender may not approve the application, forcing the consumer to return the vehicle, while other times the lender might only approve the loan with a high interest rate, one the consumer may be unwilling to pay. In addition, lenders may require a higher down payment the consumer cannot afford. To protect themselves from spot deliveries, consumers can arrange for vehicle financing on their own before vis-iting a dealership, or insist that the lender approve their applications before they take possession of the vehicle.

Did You Know? There are different times in a driver’s life when he or she may have to pull over on the side of the road. Whether a flat tire has derailed the trip, the driver or a passenger is experiencing mo-tion sickness or you find the car isn’t performing correctly and it warrants a look under the hood, pulling over on the shoulder may be necessary.
It can be difficult to pull over smoothly and safely on a busy highway, especially when you are in a stressful situation, such as a mechanical emergency. But it is in your best interest to remain calm and follow a few procedures. First, slow down and put on your right-turn signal to indicate you will need to move into the right lane. Some people prefer to put their four-way-flashers on after they have successfully cleared the lanes and are ready to navigate onto the shoulder. Try to select a spot where you are not on a bend or where there is poor visibility or your vehicle cannot be seen by other drivers on the highway. You do not want to be injured while exiting or attempt-ing to work on the pulled-over vehicle. Drivers should keep an emergency roadside assistance preparedness kit containing flares, emergency triangles or cones, a flashlight, batteries, a poncho, booster cables, duct tape, a utility knife, cord, a blanket, and first aid supplies in the car as a pre-caution. Each item serves its own unique purpose.
The Canadian Automobile Association recommends staying inside the vehicle, especially on a busy road. Tow trucks and police vehicles typically cruise busy stretches of road and help may arrive in a matter of minutes. Those who have a roadside assistance plan membership can use a cell phone to make a call for help. It is best to wait in the car until a tow truck or police arrive.
