OCTOPUS
How much do you know about octopus? Decide if the following statements are
TRUE or FALSE.
T F 1. The octopus is an invertebrate animal.
X
2. The octopus is an amphibian.
3. Most octopuses are very good swimmers.
4. They live underwater in holes and behind or under rocks.
5. Baby octopus stay with their parents a long time.
Now read and check your answers.
The octopus is an invertebrate animal which belongs to the Mollusc group. Other
animals from this group include squid and cuttlefish. Octopuses live underwater behind rocks, in crevices or in holes. Surprisingly, even though they live underwater, they are not very good swimmers. Once a baby octopus emerges from its egg it has to survive on its own and it never knows its parents. They are incredible animals. Octopuses can
change shape, change colour and ‘disappear’ when they are in danger.
