Interlinkages

There is an interrelationship between Biodiversity and Climate change. Climate change is an important cause resulting in Biodiversity loss and in return, Biodiversity loss and degradation of natural habitats also result in Climate change.

Impacts

Can be seen in forms of:• Sea level rise• Increased temperature• Extreme weather events like droughts, heat waves,

typhoons, cyclones, heavy rains• Many species go to extinct.

- Impacts: affecting directly livelihoods of human being and threatening lives and sustainable development since a basis for sustainable development are biodiversity and climate.

Challenges

• Vietnam is one of countries that are worst hit by global climate change and biodiversity loss in the coming time. Regardless which scenario will happen, impacts from Climate Change still remain huge.

• It is a global issue so global solutions are required.

• Coordination among stakeholders at all level on a country and among countries and regions is required….

Solutions

• Adaptation measures can not be delayed and• More importantly, biodiversity loss should be curbed and

climate change should be mitigated.

• Integrated measures are required:• - Awareness raising for involved stakeholders through

campaigns, information dissemination, to change attitude and actions.

• Action: develop and implement concrete measures: e.g. test, evaluate, and upscale (effective) models, hand-over of technologies, support for policies or decision making; international cooperation, etc.

Page 6: Climate change is real

For effective implementation of those measures, it should:

• Get communities involved• Proposed measures must be based on communities and

on bottom-up approaches.• Proposed measures must be based on thorough

analysis of causes.• Coordination among agencies and sectors at all levels

and all social strata: efforts of the Government and environmental agencies are not enough. Efforts of development agencies are needed...

• Integrate environmental consideration into Socio-Economic development of every country. Strategies and solutions should be global.

• Develop a comprehensive strategy with priorities.• Combine external and internal resources for effective

implementation.
