Climb a steep hill and fi nd a sculpture at Wintringham

There is parking at the layby near the church at Wintringham. With the church on your left follow the road and as it turns sharp right go straight ahead onto the footpath following the Yorkshire Wolds Way.

Go into the woods and turn left onto the track.

As the track bends sharply to the left go straight ahead on the path signed Yorkshire Wolds Way and up the steep slope.

At the top head through the gate and stop to admire the WANDER art feature “Enclosure Rites”.

Either retrace your steps from here, or continue along the path on the earthwork.

Turn right at the end of the earthwork and pass the Yorkshire Wolds Way Caravan and Campsite.

Turn left on the path down to the woods. At the woods turn right, again on the Yorkshire Wolds Way.

Leave the woods and follow the fi eld edge.

Turn right at the fi eld corner and after 100 metres left at the kissing gate.

Cross the road and continue along the Yorkshire Wolds Way.

Turn left at the end of the plantation and follow the Yorkshire Wolds Way to the brow of the hill.

Turn right here and follow the signed route along the fi elds along the brow of the hill.

Turn right leaving the Yorkshire Wolds Way and join the farm road.

Enter the farmyard of Manor Wold Farm, turn left and go through the gate.

Continue along the fi eld edge across several fi elds.

As the hedgerow bears right turn left and continue along the path.

Turn right at the road signed for West Lutton.

Turn right and follow the path through the trees and right as you leave the trees.

Head straight on up the farm track.

Cross the road and follow the fi eld edge path fi rst on the right hand side then on the left hand side of the hedgerow.

Turn right and follow the road back to Wintringham.

This is one of the steepest parts of the trail but the climb is well worth it for panoramic views of the North York Moors and across the Vale of Pickering.

The short version of this walk is there and back for 1.8 miles. Directions are also given for a full days walking of:
