1 - Overall aims of course

The course will introduce the student to the changes in the drug's absorption, distribution

and elimination with time following one compartment IV bolus, oral absorption and IV infusion.

The lectures will provide students with principle of the linear and non-linear pharmacokinetic

models and their application.

The principle of clinical pharmacokinetics is also introduced in order to be able to

formulate or modify drug dose-regimens according to the need of patients. The course will

elaborate the effects of diseases on pharmacokinetics & how to tailor this to the clinical

situation by necessary dosage adjustments in the different disease states. The course will

address various drug monographs such as: antibiotics, digoxin, immunosuppressants,

methotrexate, antidepressants, theophylline, lidocaine. phenytoin & their relevant

pharmacokinetics aspects & dosage adjustments in the different clinical situations.

absorption, distribution, metabolism & excretion) to pharmacodynamic response of

drugs.

- Discuss the general concepts of bioavailability and bioequivalence criteria.

- Explain the bioequivalence criteria for generic drugs.

solve therapeutic dilemma.

- Evaluate and interpret drug blood levels and provide instruction to the . use of

computerized programs in therapeutic drug monitoring.

c- Professional and practical skills

The student should be able to: - To be able to advice other members of the health care team on the impact of various

factors on drug kinetics.

- Perform efficiently pharmacokinetic calculations.

- Work with the other health care members to modify drug dose regimens

according to the need of patients.

d- General and transferable skills

The student should be able to

- Write reports and give oral presentations

- Learn basic information and know how to upload them

- Use web browsing to locate and use online data bases.

- Work coherently and successfully as a part of a team

- Study independently to meet targets with deadlines
