Cassis driven Cabernet from the most diverse and progressive wine region in France

Situated in the tiny AOP Cabardès, the vines cling to the sun-drenched, rocky hillsides that form the southern foothills of the Montagne Noire, at between 700 and 1000 feet above sea level. From here a panoramic view embraces the Pyrenees to the south, the Massif Central to the north, and the famous medieval City of Carcassonne 5 km away. The area is marked by a typically Mediterranean climate; with long, hot, dry summers and relatively mild winters, often swept by the dry winds blowing down to the foothills from the Massif Central.

Steeped in history dating back to 1620, he Lorgeril family has patiently built a philosophy and a wine culture. Far removed from passing fads and whims, their aim is to express as naturally as possible the fabulous terroirs of this land of garrigue and mountains.

Their Cabernet Sauvignon is a quintessential example of the grape; the wine is a vivid purple with violet reflections. Its powerful nose is dominated by dark fruits such as cassis, redcurrant, and mulberry. The palate is well structured with light tannins and long lasting flavours.

Re-defining Spanish white wine from the ‘Rey’ (King) of Galicia

El Cante del Mar ( the singing sea) is made by Martín Códax, the largest producer in Galicia with 450 hectares of vineyard planted with Albariño. The co-operative was founded in 1986 by a group of winemakers led by ninth generation winemaker Luciano Amoedo and currently comprises 2,400 tiny vineyard parcels individually managed by 550 families. Martín Códax was instrumental in the creation of the Rías Baixas DO in 1988 (in fact the statutes were signed at the winery) and are estate-grown Albariño specialists.

Rίas Baixas is a beautiful green area, which has been likened to a vision of the Garden of Eden. This lush land is characterised by rίas – deep, wide inlets of water encroaching many miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean.

Albariño is the main grape of the appellation and one of the best known in Galicia. The grape bunches and berries are small, allowing for an early ripening producing a crisp and refreshing wine; like biting into a ripe, juicy apple. It has been compared to Riesling for its minerality and bracing acidity; to Viognier, because of its fleshiness and peach/apricot character; and to Pinot Gris for its floral bouquet.
