We remember those who have had loved

ones pass away over the holidays.

    Mauria atu i a koe.

    Kua tae mai nga roimata.

To those who are with us, greetings …

great to have you all back.

Naumai e te whanau ki tenei kura.

Welcome to you, our families, to your

    school.

2017 was a great year with children being

    first and foremost at school.

    2018 will be even better!!!

` As a whole School community, we look

forward to working closely with our parents and

children to achieve the learning, social and

academic expectations which we all hold.

February and another academic year is

with us. The new classroom is completed and

looks and operates well, we really do have

another innovative learning space equipped with

top quality teachers. As our children put their

uniform on, on the first morning and carried their

lunches heading back to school, there would have

been ‘first day back excitement’ and

‘expectations’ and even in some cases nerves.

The children would have had a high level of

motivation as they remember the discussions you

had with them about trying their best, a new

room new teacher and they will be tired after the

first week of school. Most physical growth for

    children occurs when sleeping.

The greatest challenge for all is to keep

them the children motivated for achievement all

through their lives? Will they be able to withstand

the inevitable disappointments and failures that

come with trying out new challenges, be they in

    the classroom or playground.

Parents who understand the importance of

nurturing good risk-taking behaviour are sending

their child to class with more than the latest in

footwear. Learning is a natural arena of growth

and risk for children. As our children put forth

their hard work and increase their determination

to do well, they are also reaching into the

unknown without knowing if they will succeed or

    fail.

    1st Parent Teacher interviews (Thursday)

  • Sometimes, self-doubts of being able to

learn new material and articulating a wrong

answer can cause embarrassment from their

perspective that can sometimes make our

children withdraw and get anxious. For young

children there is the added risk of separation from

    the primary caregiver.

    By nurturing responsible risk taking

and recognising challenge and failure as a

normal part of life, we can help our children

make their way through another school

year with all of its highs and lows …

    knowing that through failure comes

success, determination and growth. If it

was always too easy, then no real progress

    would be made.

You as parents are also assisting them in

developing that very important skill of

    independence.

    Civil Defence at Clive school

In case of fire we evacuate to the

school playing field (this we practice each

term). In case of earth quake we drop

cover hold (this we practice each term) or we

follow our evacuation plan which is attached

    (this we do not practice).

The Clive School App is used to inform

    parents in emergency situations.

Education at all State Schools is

    free from years 5-19yrs.

There has been a lot of ‘press’ about the

costs of Education, especially when according to

‘law’ we in the state system are deemed to offer a

free education. (Section 3 Education Act 1989)

Clive school does ask for a donation and

the majority of families do meet the request over

the course of the year. What does it cover ???

devices (ipads), the maintenance and treatment

costs of the school pool, additional teacher aide

time, ongoing maintenance of the school library.

No Payments of Monies to the School Board

    of Trustees are compulsory

Except for the voluntary purchases of goods

and services or enhancements additional to

    the delivery of the curriculum.

    So

School donations (school fees / levies)

    voluntary

    Education outside of the classroom

(camps / tramps / visits) voluntary.

It is reasonable to contribute to the costs

of food and transport as a donation.

Watch/view a show at school in school

    time voluntary

    Contribution to e-learning apps voluntary

    Then

If your child has chosen to make and take

an item in technology to your home and

keep (a cost may be incurred)

    A School organised stationery pack

    (a cost will be incurred)

Chosen to participate in an activity

additional to the delivery of the curriculum

such as Guitar with Brendon or Speech

    Drama with Samantha

(then they will charge a fee)

The playing of sport after school in a team

for the School is a choice and may well

have a cost associated with it. Eg

Tennis coaching with Guy. Or Miniball,

    summer hockey, futsal etc

    (a cost will be incurred)

    And

All costs will be informed to you in

    advance of your child participating.

A full document is available to take if you

so wish from the school office explaining in

greater detail the above. Really important to read

if your children attend Intermediate or High

    School.

Apology for the use of the word ‘fee’ on the

stationery list. It has been removed. My error.

We do however rely on donations to

make all that we do at school occur.

  • Defibrillator

We at Clive school have a

defibrillator primarily for the school to use,

but also for use by the community. Located in

the school office it is easily accessible in out

    of school hours.

    This defibrillator was made available

    with generous donations from;

IS Irrigation on Lawn Road, JEL Jamieson

    Earthmoving Ltd and Powell Engineering

as well as the School Board of Trustees who

    we a very grateful to.

    Road Safety is everybody’s

    concern.

    Walking, scootering, push biking to

and from school. It is really important that

children are reminded about safety when

going to or from school. Care on the footpath

of drive ways and backing vehicles. If your

child needs to cross the road then they must

use the crossings and if not then please teach

your children to think about their safety and

check before stepping onto the road. We

nearly lost one to a car on Sutton Avenue on

    Monday afternoon.

The biggest Thank you for excellent

‘first day behaviour’ goes to the drivers of

children in cars. It was such a great feeling

not stressing about parking and pick ups and

drop offs. Just awesome. Thank you.

The Bridge is just that on the road for

vehicles to transverse it is not for cars to

wait/park on whilst waiting for children to

    emerge. Please use the Pedestrian

Crossing when taking children across the

    road.

Good lines of communication established between Parents and the School… just in case you are

    unaware;

Please sign in or out by using the

ipad on the office counter if you are collecting children for appointments or they are late to school. It ensures we know where children are when at school.

The Bell times are 8.55am school

starts 11am interval 1pm Lunch 1.55pm last session starts 3pm school ends for the day. Assembly held on Friday at approx. 2.30pm.

School uniform is as per the order

form it is uniform across the school, navy blue or black tights, if dirty from playing on the field at interval or lunch time either wash the knees and legs or wear school track pants into class this saves the carpets and many dollars in cleaning. If in the wash that is ok.

Yes water and milk are best for

growing great kids … juices, rehydration drinks, fizzy and other cans are not for school…save them for home.

    Friday Sausage sizzle sausage roll

or pie are all $1.50 please don’t send large denomination notes with children as they often loose the change.

Pita Pit online is ordered every

Tuesday for a Wednesday delivery. Term 3 will see a return to a special treat Halfway House Fish ‘n Chip Wednesday…more info later.

Friends of the School need ‘new parents’ to the school to step forward, step up and assist in the activities that all support and benefit all children called fundraising.

    Statistically shown that parents who

have high level of engagement with their child’s school and schooling have awesome outcomes in many ways.

Friends of the School are headed by Vicky Gage (Erika Rm 9 mother) who will speak briefly at Fridays assembly. Contact phone number is 8701239 or email her [email protected].

    mailto:[email protected]

  • FoS as a group operates on a shared

task approach and relies on hardworking parents just like you.

Friends of the School are in

desperate need of parents who are able to

assist with the preparation of the Friday

sausage sizzle. Without parents there will be

no sausage sizzle on Fridays…we need

volunteers to assist. Ring Vicki if you can help
