Causes of The Korean War

• Following WWII, North Korea was occupied by the Soviet Union, South Korea was occupied by the US.

• Elections to bring the two countries together failed, North Korea invaded South Korea.

• The South Koreans were pushed back to the very tip of their country.

The U.S.A Becomes Involved.

• 1950- The USA sent troops as part of United Nations Peace Keeping Force.

• Pushed North Korean Forces into China.

• China entered the war, and there was a stalemate.

How the War Ended

• North and South Korea agreed to a cease-fire (not a treaty)

• Divided the country at the 38th parallel and established a demilitarized zone.

• 34,000 American died, 100,000 injured

• 1,000,000+ Koreans died• US still has 28,000 troops in

South Korea
