Briefly explain why the CPU cannot access data directly from the hard disk

It cannot access it because it doesn’t have enough memory.

Briefly explain the purpose of the clock in the CPU

The purpose of the clock is to process measure how much time is left ot do things as it can’t do more than one thing at once.

9a What would be an average speed for a clock in a home PC.

3.1ghz

9b. How many instructions per second would this allow the CPU to process?

Three thousand million

9c. Explain why your computer performance would be improved if you purchased a CPU with a faster clock speed.

The quicker the clockspeed, the quicker you’re computer will run

10a. Explain what is meant by the term, ‘overclocking’

Overclocking is when you forcefully overclock your computer/phone more than it was built to go.

10b. What is the main problem caused by overclocking and how can it be overcome?

It can cause system instability

11a. Explain what is meant by a dual-core and a quad-core device.

A dual core device is a device with 2 cores and a quad core device is a device with 4 cores

11b. Explain why a dual-core device does not double the processing power.

It doesn’t double the processing power because the software isn’t capable to access both cpu’s at once

12. Explain the purpose of the cache

The cache is a special kind of memory which is used as spare or backup storage to hold more data.

13. Is cache memory volatile or non-volatile?

It is usually volatile unless you don’t refresh the sram repeatedly.
