CADAVER WORKSHOP
DATE Tuesday September 20th 2016 VENUE Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience University of Melbourne Grattan St, Parkville VIC Enter Level 2 (Street level), North Wing, Medical Building 181 (Corner of Grattan St and Royal Parade). The workshop will be on Level 4.
HANDS-ON-CADAVER WORKSHOP We are very pleased to offer this intensive workshop with a learning opportunity that has a strong practical focus. Participants will be able to practice upper extremity, torso and lower extremity regional anaesthesia procedures on cadaveric specimens in small groups. This opportunity will provide an excellent format to practice needle trajectories for a large range of nerve block procedures.
EDUCATIONAL CONCEPT This learning opportunity includes access to an online educational platform, Toolbox. Created by Anesthesiologist, Glenn Woodward from Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland, USA, Toolbox will provide the didactic component, available following registration. The curriculum will be provided so that assimilation of knowledge during the workshop will be more complete. All Anaesthetists and Anaesthetic Trainees are invited to attend. Total number of registrants will be limited to 30. All participants of the ANZCA CPD program may claim workshop under activity Knowledge and Skills Activity, short format learning at 2 Credits per hour.
P R O G R A M
Introduction 0800 - 0815 hours Participants will rotate through each region in small groups, for 1.5 hours during one of the session times. Groups and sessions will be allocated. Session 1: 0815 – 0945 hours Session 2: 0945 – 1115 hours Morning Tea & Trade Display, Seminar room 1115 – 1130 hours Session 3: 1130 – 1300 hours Lunch break & Trade Display, Seminar room, 1300 -1345 hours Session 4: 1345 – 1515 hours Afternoon Tea & Trade Display, Seminar room, 1515 -1530 hours Session 5: 1530 – 1700 hours End of workshop 1700 hours.
Region 1 – Brachial and cervical plexus blockade Cervical plexus Interscalene Supraclavicular Infraclavicular Axillary approach Suprascapular and axillary nerves Region 2 – Posterior torso blocks Paravertebral Intercostal Lumbar plexus Quadratus lumborum Region 3 – Posterior gluteal region and thigh blocks Sacral plexus Sciatic nerve (from origin to popliteal fossa) Region 4 – Anterior thigh blocks Femoral Fascia iliaca Adductor canal Saphenous Lateral femoral cutaneous Region 5 – Anterior torso blocks Pectoralis plane Parasternal intercostal Transabdominis plane Rectus Abdominis Skills on cadavers will be limited to dry needling only in the specified regions. Live models will be available for hands on scanning. Prosections of relevant regions will be onsite to enhance learning.
